Two mid table sides last year with very different age profiles, with the younger side expected to rise in 2025 while the older side is expected to decline. Too old too slow, and all that.

Both should be top 8 contenders again in 2025 but who will be better?

Hawks in their sophomore year will be more worked out. If coach and skipper can grow up, they could go okay.

Pies in their post senior year may be in a searching season.

Line ball.
I've said elsewhere that I think Hawthorn will regress slightly this year, taking one step back before going on to take two steps forward like many young sides do.
Fremantle are the most recent example when you look at their 2022 and their 2023 seasons.

We’ll have our work cut out being better than carlton, this just makes it too hard

Hawthorn is not Fremantle.

I love a good American high school/college analogy like this.

Maybe the thread should be ‘Can Hawthorn become the Prom Queen or will Collingwood return as the Homecoming Queen after a gap year?’

Could have interesting sub-plots like ‘Is Jack Ginnivan the chief mean girl who changed sides’, ‘Who’s Brayden Maynard gonna rumble with at lunch’ and ‘what’s with Darcy Moore’s fashion sense this semester’?

its the hawks final everytime that pies and hawks play but long term they blow it hawks and just can not come good.
i think collingwood are far an away a better run club but as with tradition hawks have the wood over the woods.
all steams back to the 60s they took over from the pies as kind bird in town.
alot of first hawks fans of the 60s fathers were pies supporters as a kid.
pies were the basis of the kennedys fathers and they had sometinhg to go with jock mchale.
enter the modern times and they are the king bird but the pies are the biggest in the land

On what basis exactly are Collingwood are "far and away better" run.club than Hawthorn?

The exciting thing is, there's still 15 other "Who will be better in 2025? Hawthorn or _____" threads that can be made.
I'm surprised there is no thread about who will be better this year out of Port and Hawthorn, especially after last year's semi final and James Sicily calling Port a nowhere club.

14 AFL level clubs. I don't think we need to include Richmond
