A successor to the 2025 thread who will be better in 2026? I personally think Carlton because they have a mature list they made a preliminary final recently and should return to finals in 2026. North are still young and quite raw so I don't think they're ready for finals yet but they are on the verge of exiting the dark ages and I can see them finishing mid table in 2026 before going on to play finals in 2027.

Nah they’re cooked.

Docherty’s retired, TDK gone. Silvagni and Curnow too.

Leaves their main goal kicker to persevere with his chronic case of the yips alone.

Backline being held together by Weitering and a geriatric Nick Haynes, rounded out by his fellow elders Newman, Saad, and McGovern.

It’s gonna get ugly pretty fast.

And they still will probably do better than North.

Have you seen Norths backline lately?

Well you're bagging them like they're a bunch of hacks Mr "lmao", so YOU for starters

They're trending up, you're trending down and they beat you last time

Logic would dictate they will fly past Carlton in 2026 👍
They've been bottom 4 how many years in a row now? If they aren't classified as a 'bunch of hacks' idk what is...

Yet the "bunch of hacks" flogged you last time, so therefore Carlton are also a "bunch of hacks", or worse

Roos are trending up, Blues heading down, you could show a little more respect especially since your club is at the bottom of the 21st century ladder, the millennial "bunch of hacks"

Carlton have botched their list build.
Should be contending and now are trying to work out what to do.

North have been rebuilding since 2019.
A raft of coaches, handouts and first round draft picks makes up their list.
Should be on the way up.

But there’s question marks on the football dept and whether the list decisions they have made are the right ones.

Anything less than 10 wins I’d expect North to look at the football dept for an overhaul, starting with the list manager, the head of football and the coach.

Anything less than wildcard and I’d think Voss is on the way out.

It’s more likely that North achieve the above target than Carlton do IMO.

We've comfortably beaten Geelong the last few times we've vsed them... Does that mean we're better than Geelong?

Well they play in prelims and GFs regularly so NO, you're nowhere near them, different galaxy

North on the other hand are trending up and should have no problems flying past the free-falling Blues next year

Alright, lets talk backlines.

Based on proven talent rather than potential, Weitering is the best in either. No argument from me there.

But after then I'd rather have FOS or McKercher than any of their others.

I'd also rather have Comben than McGovern or Haynes.

While its true Logue came back unfit and undercooked after his spell off injured last year, if he can recapture his previous form he'd be an improvement over 2026 Gov or 2026 Haynes too.

Already have, North will push the top 10 in 2026, Blues will be contending for the spoon with the Bombers
North have won 20 games in total this decade ( im including 2020).
All of a sudden they are pushing finals What are you trying to catch - barramundi or flathead ?

It makes a difference when you have a balanced list and a bloke who can coach, coaching.

It would surprise me more if Carlton stuck into the top 10, than North.

Norths backline has the very simple issue of a complete lack of interest in defending an opponent.

Comben, McKercher, Daniel, McDonald, Fisher, Corr... Really Archer and Pink are the only ones who actually show any intent of actually defending while the others run around chasing kicks to the teams detriment. My good mate is a mad North nuffie and bemoans it just about every week that they play. Same goes for most of your midfield too to be honest.

North conceded over 500 points more than the Blues did in 2025 and that was in a season that was considered a complete disaster for us. I'll take Carltons backline any day over that lot.

North should because they should be far enough down the rebuild to start catching clubs. But Blues getting Haywood and Florent should give them enough to beat North. It's definitely closer than it should be.
