Well InMy opinion Dean Bailey has to go! The Dees list is alot better then what they are showing so far this year!

You guy's should really be pushing for top 4 but basically your players are not going in hard enough and do not have enough confidence in Dean Baileys game plan you seem to handball more then you guy's kick and that will never winyou guy's a premiership!

If Malthouse win Collingwood another flag this year it wouldn't faze me or any other Collingwood supporter if he wanted to coach another club and it wil be another Victorian club but the question is can Melbourne affored to pay him more then what Collingwood are Paying him (est 1 million per year).

I think Mick would love the challenge to coach melbourne and works great with young kids but it will all comme to how much money the Dees are will to offer him!

He might also coach the Hawks or Carlton if either one do not make the top 4 and they will be able to pay Mick! But If i was mick I would choose the DEES to coach due to there possible potential and having great young talent!

I'm pretty confident that we could afford Mick. I'm not so confident that we could afford all the good assisstant coaches that would come alonmg with Mick. We are paying Bailey the same amount as what your assisstant coaches are getting paid. You pay for monkeys, you get monkeys. And would he really want to coach us? Personally, I think Roos is no chance to coach next season. So Mick is the guy we should be targetting(right now).

Would love to see it happen as he's exactly what we need. But I'm not sure our board has the balls or the nous to pull off a coup like that.

Malthouse is the one, easily the best available.
However we will not out bid Carlton
So then I guess the most likely is Todd Viney but I know nothing of his actual
ability.
Hope we do not pick him just because he is a favorite son and we want Jack at the MFC

Wouldn't roll on Bailey just yet, but he's not doing himself any favours.

Viney is in pole position, Malthouse will be the media's favourite.

I feel the same way & I have held off from talking about whether he needs to go, but if we perform like we did last night in the next few weeks it will be almost impossible for him to keep his job.

What I do want to see is what we did after our pathetic effort against the Hawks destroyed us last year against Collingwood. If we can’t do that the players aren’t even trying to play for their coach to keep his job.

Leigh Mathews?

No I don't think so, just listening to some of his "special comments" during games is enough to put me off him.

Re-posted from another thread:

Time will tell but I honestly think that Bailey needs to go. I was prepared to wait and see if he could coach, and after 3 full seasons and a handful of games this year I am now of the opinion its time to look elsewhere.

I can handle not being good enough but I can't handle watching the $hit that they have dished up this year. Last year we did make big strides forward, and I think our worst loss was about 7 goals but this year both our losses have been by more than that and and we haven't even been competitive in those games. The forward press is the way at the minute but we all know things change very quickly in this game, so I don't mind if we don't play that but I can tell you something that everyone else knows other than Bailey and that is the fact that you can not and will not win games of footy when the ball is constantly in your defensive 50 for the amount of time it currently is and coupled with the fact that the opposition gets the ball inside their 50 double the amount of times we do, along with contributing about 75%-80% of the opposition teams score from direct turnovers - YOU CANT F#*$ING WIN. You also need to have contingency plan(s) and Bailey certainly doesn't have a plan B or C.

Its probably a long shot but I would be chasing Malthouse. Pies have moved him on and really it is a waste of talent not having him coach. I have always rated him and he gets the absolute best out of his players which is what we need. It might cost 1.5m or so but it would be worth while, whilst we have all these so called gun youngsters to build with. We are debt free and need to spend cash and Malthouse has taken two teams from the bottom up. He likes a challenge and we are the oldest footy club in the world, haven't won a flag since the 1964 and I bet if they were to get him they would recover the cash spent on increased memberships, merchandise etc which comes with winning.

The other options would be Paul Roos, Todd Viney or Garry Lyon in the same way that Essendon surrounded Hird with the best right hand men in the game, but for me they should go really hard for Malthouse at whatever the cost it is... as long as he still has the hunger to coach on next year.

Thats my take on things and at the minute I am absolutely devastated and disgusted with what we are displaying!

please name some contracts that are broken. Eddie doesnt want Malthouse to coach ANY other AFL team for three year. he just know too much about Collingwood. thats why they are paying him millions to do **** all next year. he could go overseas for 3 years and they would still pay him, as long as he's not coaching another afl team

Michael Voss was contracted at WCE before Leigh Matthews moved on from Brisbane. I'd say a fair few assistant coaches over the years have broken contracts after being appointed senior at other clubs. Admittedly they may have a clause in their contract allowing them do so.

Brad Scott and example (possibly) was appointed senior coach at north during the 2009 finals and Collingwood moved him on straight away understandbly so. A good chance he was contracted at the time.

Malthouse will coach again for sure and i dare say within the 3 year peroid he is contracted to collingwood for. You ask why he signed that deal, why wouldn't he? Regardless of what he offers come or don't come his way in the next 3 years he has employment until 2014.

Id like malthouse, but if we cant get him id suggest Dean Laidley...did great things when instilled as an assistant at port last year and brought real mongrel and physicalltiy to a "soft" team....IMO Port made a massive mistake selecting primus over him.

That's not technically breaking a contract. If the escape clause allows the acceptance of a senior coaching job, that is abiding by the contract. It's just one of the possible outcomes of the contract.

What about Brian Royal i think he is your backline coach he has missed a few coaching jobs in the last few years.

Alan Richardson might be worth a look as well the best Development Coach going around.

Todd Viney for me :)

Reasons:
1) Past Captain and Champion to the club :thumbsu:
2) Experience player. Plenty of VFL/AFL game experience comparing to Bailey :thumbsu:
3) Have coaching experience as Assistant Coach with Hawks and Crows :thumbsu:
4) Know MFC as a club and its culture very well :thumbsu:
5) At his current age will give MFC a longer coaching service :thumbsu:
etc.....

Malthouse won't provide coaching service too long comaping to Viney. Took 9-10 years to win a premiership for the magies. If he is the coach of MFC, I don't think Malthouse will give MFC a quick premiership. within a year or two before his retirement.

In addition, does MFC have the budget to hire Malthouse?

Malthouse will cost more then Viney.

I don't think Gary Lyon is interested while working at Channel 9.

I think back to the final few years of Gary Lyon’s career when his back was shagged. When he didn't play we looked like garbage, when he did we generally won. He was our captain and we won not because he stared but because he had respect. When Gary speaks people listen.

With Todd, Gary and Jimmy in charge I have faith.

Lyon has not been involved in football as a player or coach for 12 years. The game has changed so much since then, he would not have a good enough knowledge of modern tactics. At least Hird was playing up until the end of 2007, which isn't that long ago. Plus we don't have the money to poach highly regarded assistants to surround Lyon.

If Gary coach's Melbourne in 2012 it wont be for the money.

Pay Roo's the big bucks as a director of coaching or whatever, Gary as senior coach, Viney as a line coach and Rory Hilton as the bloke who belts people at training.

Yeah right, so you haven't noticed my umpteen posts in various threads going way back saying that Bailey isn't going to make the grade - you know, the same posts that plenty of members criticised as being unfair and impatient with Bailey?

I like the cut of your jib.

I was critisising Bailey like it was going out of style in 2009. In fact, Demonland even banned me for my anti-Bailey comments
