Who will be the best player picked up in the pre-season draft?

St Kilda have the first pick and it appears that we are going to draft Brett Voss.

He is only 22 years old and after visiting the lions forum, seems to be highly regarded.

Port seem likely to be picking up Shane Wakelin with their choice and they have pick no 3.

It will be interesting to see whether the bulk of the selections in the pre-season draft are older players like Heatley and Rocca or young players who may not have been given much of a chance at their respective clubs.

For a few years now, Geelong has actually bypassed the preseason draft (once for salary cap restrictions) however i think they realise that the majority of the 'rejects' that are taken in the preseason draft don't deliver much for their new club. Look at Damian Monkhorst, James Cook, Scott Russell, etc. I suspect these were only quick fix solutions which failed dismally. Rocca probably deserves another chance (if he can get his weight down) and will probably get it (i've heard Richmond are considering his services) however Heatley, whilst a good talent, has wasted his chances with his lax attitude on and off the field. He is a volatile and unreliable prospect, which is a shame because he could have become a great player if it weren't for his poor attitude. Simon Arnott will probably get picked up by Adelaide if he is still available at their selection at the draft.

good question eagles kick ass, i have no idea who collingwood are looking at picking up they're keeping it pretty much under wraps, they better have something up their sleeves, our trading was all pretty much shit again this season! i hope richmond do pick up sav, id rather them or saint kilda than anyone else because i'm gonna be at those games supporting him.....
i have no idea with this drafting thing it all confuses me, has anyone else heard about collingwood???

But does anyone know who the Eagles want. Some players have turned out good, can't put my finger on them right now, but unlike the past I think many quality players may be in it this year as clubs struggle to re sign them. It may be something worthy to get into this time around.

Well its been all over the papers the fact that winnie doesn't want to play for the Kangaroos anymore and had asked to be traded with bell.

He wont leave perth so there is no reason for Kangaroos to keep him if he aint going to play
Sure west Coast are before the dockers

But do they want him, does he want to play their, can the afford him

If the answer is no to any of those questions he will be a docker next year

Spidergirl, Stephen Tingay is supposed to be doing the pre-season with the Eagles, that must be who the Eagles will take if he has a good pre-season. Thats what I read at the Eagles website.

A St Kilda official announced on radio yesterday that they would go for the best two talls with their first draft picks. I believe that is Riewoldt and Kotsizke(hope I spelt their names right) The third choice appears to be Alan Didak as he is rated the next best player.

To the Dockers

On behalf of the freo supporters i would like to make a heart warm thankyou once again to the Kangaroo's football club for their kindness

Greg Miller... said Freo could not broker adeal during trading and unfortunately for Winnie he would have to serve his contract... I doubt the Kangaroos will be doing anything nice for Freo for a few years to come... sorry Sabre_ac but that is the way it is...

Rooboy

I know winnie is still contracted but currently he is in western Australia and refuese to return to melbourne and play for the kangaroos.

Now wouldn't it be best for the Kangaroos to cut their loses and release him, or continue paying him his large salary when they arnt going to get use out of him

If he enters the darft the only teams that will be able to get him are Eagles or The Dockers

He wont play for any other club, and going by his past record no other melbourne club are willing to take the risk

What losses... if he does not return... he is in breach of contract... and gets nothing... and no-one gets him... if he wants to earn a couple of hundred grand... next year... he has to return....

and that is how it is...

Barry Young, Anyone ?

Those heralding the Bomber's depth must realise it doesn't mean it's cast-offs are in the best 18 at another club. Meanwhile Jon Robran (who didn't get much time on the ground with the hawks in 1999) was close to GF selection with the bombers.

There's no "wait and see" needed. Under the current rules Abraham can play for no team other than North next year. If it's "all over the papers" then that's why we don't hear much about what's written over there, as the reporters obviously know very little. I'm pretty sure that even,in the unlikely event, that North cancelled his contract ,and somehow allowed him to noiminate for the pre-season draft, his contracted amount would still stay on their salary cap,so it would be no advantage to release him. Most likely scenario if he doesn't want to come back is sitting out the year.

Slight disagreement re 'Apples' Pess, his 99 was imho his best year with us. They only let him go as they thought (turned out right too) that twig Rawlings could do a better job. Just on his ommision from the Essendon premiers, some of my Bomber mates were spewing that Alessio was choosen ahead of him. Anyway good luck to Jon a really good bloke and maybe he might get a better run for the Dons next year.

Would that not be tempering with the draft... Winnie would be fined...
Didn't a certain delisted Collingwood player try to tell Sydney he did not want to play for an interstate club... that worked well if my memoryserves me right... NOT...
