Better not be. As great as Farmer undoubtedly was, he only played 101 games for Geelong. Not quite the same as 242 as Ablett did.

The only difference that may push it in Farmers favour is that he was instrumental in us winning a flag.

In 89 GA almost single handedly won us a GF. Tough pick but God for mine.

You could say that Reg Hickey was just as instrumental in winning a flag/flags. However Polly probably had more of an impact on the game.

My head says Polly but my heart says Ablett.

..........But I reckon Menschy has a helluva chance.

Farmer changed the game with his ruckwork and 30m handballs that were used for attacking, not linking up with another player.

Snr was one of the best full forwards ever seen. Pure magestic brilliance.

Gazza for me, but not by much.

Gazza by a fair way in my opinion.

The old man has lived through both era's and is as one eyed as me but he clearly states the Polly was a sensational footballer, yet Gazza was unbelievable and undoubtably the best footballer he has ever seen by a long way.

If its got enough for Hoff Senior, it's good enough for me!

Go Gazza.

P.S - The idea of a tie is great, however my understanding is every current and alive past player votes on the greatest Geelong player? In that event, i find it highly unlikely that a tie will be the result.

surely my man david mensch will win the prize!! Menschy is streets ahead of any other bloke to wear the mighty hoops!! :thumbsu: Any half decent cats fan will realise its no contest :p

Isnt it a bit difficult to have an opinion on someone you've never seen play??

For me it'd be Gazza (and i only saw him for the last 4 years of his career)
From what other people swear on, it's Polly Farmer.

Anyway, if it IS Ablett will he even be there to receive the award???

I'm in a similar position. My Dad goes right back to the 51-52 teams and before, but after the 89 Finals series - which he attended with me - he says Ablett is the best he's seen by miles.
