Coach Who will coach in 2014?

Not trolling, I have thought for a while that Sheedy may come back for the year, coach a team and get some wins in his final year. No interest in continuing to go on, heaps of history with Essendon, start the 'rebuild the culture' media front and then hand over to Hird at the end of the year.

Heaps of experience, positive look for the club, no issues with him wanting to keep going on.

Just my thoughts.

How about the words HELL NO! Love Sheeds we all do, but the bloke is so past it, he barely did any coaching at GWS- Leon Cameron did 95% of it. We don't need him. I wouldn't rule out having him in some capacity, but head coach, no. Rather get Bomber Thomson or Mark Williams or Goodwin.

Isn't that what we want? Him dealing with media etc, Bomber running the show without having to deal with the non-coaching crap.

Goodwin. Has shared his whole "coaching life" with Hird, players are already familiar, and it will feel like a proper continuation.

People are nattering on about a clean break... the actual football trend is good, this isn't the same scenario as a sacking.

I would rather Mark Thomson, Goodwin or Mark Williams. We have gone through Sheedy, we don't need him back. I would be happy with a Goodwin-Thompson combo

I believe we stick with Simon Goodwin, he's young, and knows the game plan, He will still have Bomber there to help him, and it gives him an opportunity to see if he wants to be a senior coach. I think he would be a great pick for us in 2014.

Bomber or Goodwin with lloydy to be forward line coach

Because hiring people without popular consultation worked out real well. With the replacement coach, we're almost forced to pick an internal option, particularly with it being assured that Hird will come straight back. But the replacement assistant coach doesn't have to be the first Essendon champion we can find..... it just has to be the best option. It could be Luke Power for all we know.

I would prefer someone who has a good knowledge of forward setups.

I'd prefer Goodwin to take over with Bomber remaining in his current role, if he doesn't want to be head coach. The only problem with Goodwin is if he does well he'll invariably leave to coach another team when Hird returns (Provided he actually does want to come back).

This is why Goodwin would be the last of my preferences. Not that he can't coach...but what happens if we get to the top 4 with him in the top job? He won't want to be an assistant forever anyway, so I guess there is less to lose that way. Maybe we will find out whether Goodwin is a better option than Hird full stop. I just don't know.

Goodwin will fly the coop at any rate. IMO, he was always going to get a gig before Hird was finished, and if it hasn't already, if the Hird regime fails and needs to be removed, then you don't always keep your assistants.

Look I can see your point, I can, and if they went that way I would be fine with it. However I just have no idea what they will do if next year we are sitting 3rd and Hird waltzes back in and coaches the finals. How would you feel if you were Goodwin...if I were him I would be pissed! If you could get Goodwin to agree maybe. However I would rather go with Bomber or Mark Williams or even Rodney Eade if it is for a short term appointment.

It's why it needs to be clarified that this is a caretaker's job. If that is indeed what it is.

Which is why I am leaning towards Bomber, Mark Williams and Eade, Roos would be another but he wouldn't do it. Dean Laidley would be another smart choice.

Yeah, Laidley or Williams just to throw Caro a bone and say "See, for all your whinging you were actually right all along. Now shut up."

If James Hird is coming back I don't see how anyone else could coach except for Bomber or Goody. You couldn't have a completely new coach come in with new ideas, game plans, structures etc, and then Hirdy come back in 12 months and expect him to either carry on from these or expect the players to then revert back. My tip is actually Simon Goodwin for what it's worth.

Has to be from within - Goody or Thompson. We need to continue the same game plan as we have built over the last 3 seasons. It is vital not much changes. Perhaps Goodwin as head coach but Bomber stepping up to the plate like he did in 2011 and having a larger input than he has this last year or two.

Has to be Thompson.

If the structure that Little wants is to be followed, Bomber is the only one that would be happy to sit in the chair and "keep it warm" that is capable of following the current processes instilled in the list.

He will sit in the seat until Rd 22 next year, then transition with Hird in Round 23 before the finals series that delivers our next premiership :D

Thompson and Goodwin co-coaches. The other option- Mark Williams. Now shoot me all you like but he is way more achievable than Paul Roos if we are going to appoint outside our club.

Choco would have been my absolute top target if we needed a permanent coach.

We poached Goodwin straight off the field, we poached Wellman as an Essendon champion, we poached Bomber - McCartney is the only one who had worked with any of the senior management before (possibly a Nodda/Corcoran overlap, but they were in different departments anyway).
