Will St Kilda and Fremantle swap coaches for 2002?
Blight to Fremantle
Drum to St Kilda?

Who else would the saints look at? Derm? Stan Alves?

I would have said ALVES too. He was a great coach and his sacking a joke. I hope that Butress and Co have the humilty to go back to him. He knows the culture loves the club and would be a huge asset.

an article on i7 makes a similar call.....

where would StK be if they had never sacked him...

At a guess I'd say Mark Harvey. Perhaps they can chase the coaches Freo are chasing. I.e Eade and Wallace. But it would take a lot of convincing to coach the saints I would have thought.

St.Kilda have some good kids and they'll more than likely get a priority draft pick, and if they can get rid of a few of the allegedly less disciplined members of the squad (hello Jones and Peckett, and if they trade aggressively.....Everitt), there's the basis of a good team there if the coach and club are willing to work on a 3 year time frame (just as Malthouse and McGuire have done at Collingwood).

The best coach for the Saints would be someone like Pagan, Malthouse, Sheedy, and probably Wallace....coaches who can force their personality and discipline onto the club. But none of these people are available. The best option would probably be someone like Mark Harvey. He's worked under Sheedy, he has a strong personality, he can point to premierships as a player and as an assistant coach, and he strikes me as the type who would make sure that the club follows his lead. But the question is whether Harvey would want to take on St.Kilda or just bide his time and wait until he gets the chance to take over from Sheedy at Essendon.

I have a feeling we will go for a younger, untried coach.

I'll have my money on Brian Royal at this stage but perhaps Mark Harvey is a chance. Who else would be in the running? Maybe even Robert Shaw.

From what I understand, there were reasons for sacking Stan Alves that went far beyond our on-field performace. Having said that, that did happen under a previous administration and stranger things have happened.

SAINTER
Keep your paws of Harvs:mad: he is a Bomber through & through.
My money is on Frawley going back home, or how about Plugger as a dark horse.:D

I wouldn't rule out Peter Banfield.

Maybe Dermott Brereton.he has just given up the all australian coach and channel 7 have lost the tv rights and he wants all victorian clubs to survive

A blight on football

What goes around comes around...
He is now finished as a coach! :)

At least Adelaide got 2 flags out of him.

St Kilda have now sacked coaches that can and can't coach, and although the board has made some shockin decisions in years gone by, you watch em go and stuff it up:eek: they will no doubt stick with the caretaker coach (if thats what hes called) until they can find some other gullible pr!ck.

Id suggest Tony Modra and other Adelaide Crow sympathisers will be not shocked but chortling in their delight:p

Oh how nice it is to be flushed with Short Poppy Syndrome

Stephen Williams could be asked to fill the coaching breech, however, knowing track records Robert Shaw could be set up as the next fall guy

And er... Go Crows :)

i reckon

If Stephen Williams wins the falg with Port Magpies this year he will go to either Feo or St Kilda. He is a 3 time premiership coach (from 5 years) and does not take crap from anyone.

Dermott Brereton maybe, but his name gets thrown around whenever a coaching job becomes avaiable, but i dont think he would be the type of coach you would want at st kilda.

How about Robert Walls, did anyone see Talking Footy on Tuesday night, he even said he would love to coach a team with Rod as president.

Could do worse than Walls, though he hasn't coached for yonks. Alves won't coach us again. They'll probably go for Connolly. What a strange day!
