Just noticed on AFL tables that Tom Hawkins has kicked 673 goals in his career, 27 away from his 700th goal, while Jeremy Cameron is currently on 474 goals, 26 away from his 500th.

So what do we think will happen first - will Tom reach his 700th before Jezza kicks his 500th, or vice versa?

Consensus here. I’d have Hawkins 10 times out of 10. But if Jezza came around my door, I might let him in.

Jezza, with many Hawkins assists.

It’s nice to see in the media and in neutral supporter discussions that he’s starting to be appreciated for what he is - seems to be a bit of a consensus that he’s probably the best all round forward of the last decade behind buddy

They’re closer than people think between 2013 & 2022. Lance Franklin has had 4 AA’s and 2 Coleman’s in that time compared to Hawkins 3 AA’s & 1 Coleman but Buddy also played in two more grand finals in that time frame.

Hawkins kicked 504 goals since 2013 from 203 games. Assisted 181 goals.
Averages out to 3.37

Franklin kicked 482 goals since 2013 from 150 games. Assisted 137 goals.
Averages out to 4.126

The highest scoring players beside Franklin over the past ten years are Roughy (72), Tippett (34), Tippett (44), Papley (29), Papley/Reid (30), Hayward (28), Papley (37), Papley (26), Papley (43) and Heeney (9) for about 35.2 goals per year. Since I’m counting 2013-2021 he’s been pipped by a teammate 3 times with 2022 yet to be seen.

The highest scoring players next to Hawkins were Motlop (44), Bartel (27), Stevie J (30), Motlop (38), Danger (45), Menzel (27), Ablett (34), Rohan (22), Cameron (39), Cameron (8) which is 31.4 goals a season. Hawkins has been our top goal scorer for the past 9 years (10 actually) so hasn’t been beaten once. Wonder if Jezza can stop Hawkins from going 10/10 and 11 straight club leading goalkicker awards?

Always the possibility I messed up somewhere but doubt it. Both are guns.

Was actually looking this up today - No player has kicked more goals in the last decade than Tom and certainly no one has contributed as many.

Since 2012 (so the last 10 seasons plus 3 games this year)
Riewoldt 519 goals + 173 assists = 692
Franklin 541 + 133 assists = 674
Hawkins 558 + 200 assists = 758
Kennedy 531 + 104 assists = 635

Big difference when it comes to finals time though.
2.9 goals & 0.9 assists per 25 finals games vs 1.6 goals & 0.6 assists per 29 finals games.

It's nice of our supporters to dream about an alternate reality though.

I blame Chris Scott not Tom Hawkins.

Hawkins requires 6 more goals to reach 700
Cameron requires 6 more goals to reach 500

Neck and neck.

I'm still going with Cameron first, and he'll kick goal 500 off an assist from Hawkins

I'm predicting Hawkins to reach 700 next week.
