It was sad to see Che Cockatoo-Collins go down with a hamstring against Richmond after working so hard to beat his hamstring problems from last year.
Hes been one of our real shining lights up forward and has been some what of a dead eye **** when it comes to kicking goals, he seems to hardly ever miss no matter what the angle. Its just amazing how he can get up after a Broderick shirt front which should have been reportable and then to see him go down to a simple running effort through the middle.
Anyway who is going to replace him? My first thought came to Peter Burgoyne, there is no doubt he has that same kind of class, can take a great grab and has no trouble kicking goals just like he did against Fremantle where he finished with 6. My only doubt about this is that we probably lose something out of the middle by putting him down forward for too long, from my memory Brisbane who we play next is a pretty tall side so we might be best going with a tall.
Of the talls I would probably first look at Scott Bassett, he kicked 9 goals for Norwood against North Adelaide on the weekend and can take a great grab. He was unlucky to miss against Richmond on the weekend after having a pretty good game against Fremantle the week earlier. Bassett should be able to give us a bit of versatility as well, its possible that Wakelin could miss this week as well so he is an option to go to defence as well.
Bowen Lockwood kicked 3 goals for Central Districts on the weekend and we just know how much Mark Williams loves this boy. Just an opportunity and some good form from him at AFL level just may turn it on for him at the right end of the season when most of us think that he is gone.
Since moving to the Port Adelaide Magpies Mark Harwood has shown some good form. Hes probably in need of a life line to beat the axe at the end of the year, another player that could go forward or back. Im sure he can show us something particularly if we get the ball forward enough, his main problem at Glenelg was that the ball was in the backline, hard to kick goals from there.
Toby Thurstans is a chance but I don't think they will go with him, probably more of a prospect for next year. Hes just now getting really settled at Sturt, no use breaking that momentum now, the last thing you want to do is take him to Brisbane and sit him on the bench for most of the match. The more game time he can get at Sturt the better he is going to be for us next year, too much of a gamble in such a big game.
I wouldn't think we would go with a small, Alan Murray would probably be the only one but we probably have enough of those kind of players in our side right now.
So as Mike Sheehan would normally say, 'what do you think?'
