As iceman has said in another post our centre line at the start of the season was as follows:
FB: McIntosh
HB: Jakovich
C: Kemp
HF: Sierrakowski
FF: Cummings
R: Gardiner
Of all those players, McIntosh and Kemp are likely to retire at the end of the season, and possibly Jakovich. Sierrakowski is yet to prove that he can play CHF and play it well. He is also in his late twenties and so wont last much longer especially after this reconstruction
. Cummings no longer performs consistently week in week out, he is often injured and he to is getting on a bit. The only player that we are guaranteed of having in 4 seasons is Gardiner who is undoubtedly our best player and most important.
Young players on our list that could possibly be key position players:
Beeck - Is still only a rookie and is largely untested and unseen. Dont know much about him but from his profile he is tall enough to play FF, CHF, CHB or FB. Unfortunately I dont know anything about his speed and marking ability and therefore for this time we must disregard him.
Dean Buszan - Has been at the club for 2 seasons I think and could finally get a run this year despite still being a rookie. Does well in the WAFL when not injured and could be our future FF.
Cousins - we know how good a player he is but do we really want him as a ruck rover. He is going to get crunched there and that may shorten his career. Not a good move I think.
Dean Cox - we have some quite a bit of him this year and looks to be a developing ruckman. Could aslo play CHF or CHB if we were desperate.
Embley - Been injured this year but could make a presence on our CHF line. He is fairly quick and has a good leap and powerful kick. Would need to improve his accuracy however.
Fletcher - our future ruck rover
Gardiner - #1 ruckman. Could be played at CHF I guess...
Gaspar - will finally get a run this week but where to we want to play him...CHF or CHB? He could play both positions and could also be a possible future FB.
Glass - Is just big enough to be a fullback but I would prefer someone slightly taller. I think he could be a very good second defender as a back up for a fullback.
Hunter - could be a CHF or FF. Still a bit scrawny and will need to bulk up a bit.
Kerr - could be our ruck rover but I would prefer someone who could take the physical pressure better such as Fletcher.
McCarrey - I've personally seen him play and he is a good forward. I dont think however that he could be the teams main full forward. Also still only a rookie and scrawny.
McDougall - will become a key position player, CHF or CHB depending on what Travis Gaspar starts playing. Would prefer him at CHB.
Well there you are...we have a lot of younsters to fill in the positions but it looks like they may unfortunately be rushed in.
My future line:
FB: Glass or new recruit
HB: McDougall
C: Fletcher
HF: Gaspar
FF: Buszan or McCarrey or new recruit.
