Watch out for David Mackay this year quality young kid who killed it in the SANFL before getting injured. Also think Vince and Douglas, given a decent run in the midfield will start to kill it up, were too good for SANFL last year and just weren't given enough opportunities in the midfield when they did play.

OK this "Mackay killed it in the SANFL" is getting out of hand.

He played 1 reserves game and 1 league game. I think he was BOG in his one reserves game, and in his one league game he had 21 possessions and was 3rd best for South in a thumping.

Some perspective please people.

And like it or not, Douglas wasn't "too good for the SANFL". He avered about 20 possessions and was probably in the Bays best players in half of his matches. Sure he showed some great signs, including that one 7 goal game, but he was far from being too good for the comp. Symes was, Douglas wasn't.

Well it's more than Messen did in SANFL :D

Douglas has been consistently in the Bays best & often been BOG. He is a class act who stands out at SANFL level & will be a very good player for AFC. Simarly, Vince also deserves a decent run in the midfield, rather than as a HFF.

From last year's side, Hudson is the biggest loss IMO. However, looking forward to further improvement from Maric with a decent pre-season & Giffin. Both of these guys have the potential to be better long-term prospects than Hudson.

Ricciuto's leadership will be badly missed & time for the next generation to stand up - Rutten, Thompson & van Berlo. However, as a player Roo sadly hardly made an impact this year.

Mattner won't be a huge loss, given he was played out of position. Symes will be more suited to this role. Torney however will be missed, not only for his on field, but off field leadership. But we now have the opportunity to rotate Goodwin through a HBF, to give some younger midfielders a go.

We need key forwards to step up - preferably 2 of Hentschel returning from injury, Tippett & Gill. Think Sellar is still another 6 months to a year off.

Exciting times ahead.

Come on Drummond.

If either of those two had played for Norwood last year, their performances would have had the equivalent of a mouthful of viagara tablets on you. ;) :p

age.

Younger players vying for his particular position, or a love of Neil Craig to play kids in the backlines.

Weird logic.
I wouldn't drop Crawford for Ellis just because he is a decade younger. If Crawford is performing better, he should be playing.

Sounds like Craig is preparing for a massive rebuild.

While Torney was playing great, I think the development of the squad was in mind, and the possibility that the players Neil Craig intends to play in Torney's position would either do a job as good as Torney or good enough so as to not effect the team too much.

If such a player is younger, like a Symes type, then all the better.

Also you have remember with the return of Basset someone is going to have to miss out, and I think it got to the point that the club cannot afford for a young player to miss out.

Yes but Crawford is really your only "old" player and on his day is still one of your very best. 3 of our best players are also 3 of our oldest, but still have at least one year of footy left in them and were never going to be moved on just yet. It's as simple as this; Torney was the oldest player that we could cover the loss of the most easily. Tough call on him but absolutely correct given the state of our list.

MacKay, Tippet and Bernie Vince.

Bit early for Sellar, he's still very young for a KPP, but a lot will depend on him having a full, trouble free pre-season. If so I think we'll see a lot more of his talent in the SANFL, and hopefully will push for an AFL game.

Neil Craig hopefully.....

we can not continue to play our boorish, defensive style, it hasn't delivered a flag and the comp is moving on to fast paced, attacking style (geelong, hawthorn, port etc)

Griffin and Douglas to really blossom in 2008 and become regular good performers for the Crows.

Mackay to show everyone why we picked him and pick up a Rising Star nomination.

Tippett to improve at 100 mph and play games before the end of the year.

Vince to have a his first proper AFL pre-season and push for a spot in the mid-field as well.

Symes to be a regular and make all Port suporters weep with his consistently good form. :)

All of the above subject to injury - or more specifically the lack of injuries.

yep agree :thumbsu:

would also like to see sellar step as consistent performer at league level for bays.

and i reckon moran is a silly chance to play 10+ games for us next yr. an exciting prospect IMO

I think Kurt Tippett will be the player to step up next season. I saw him a few times for Westies this year and I was very impressed. Even though we want him to be a key forward i think he has the ability to be our best ruckman in the future. When i saw him play for West it really stood out how good he was in the centre square with his tapwork sensational. He moves well and loves the hard stuff.
In saying that i hope he turns out to be a key forward. From what ive read he sounds like he is a great pack mark (likened to Stewart Loewe) The games i saw him play for West he did struggle up forward but that mayve had a bit to do with how badly the Westies side was playing as well.
I am very confident we will have a great player here. If fit I would have in the crows side for Round 1.

Id expect the fringe players to improve greatly and with more opportunities in 08 it will help advance their development.

players such as...
Vince
Douglas
Sellar

don't be surprised if we see a lot of games from...
Moran
Symes

& greater improvement from older players such as...
Burton
Rielly
