I would like to know who everybody thinks will win in Round 1 of the Ansett Cup.

The games are listed below:

Friday, 16 February
West Coast v Kangaroos - Subiaco (N)
Collingwood v Saint Kilda - Colonial (N)
Geelong v Sydney - Darwin (N)

Saturday, 17 February
Fremantle v Melbourne - Subiaco (N)
Adelaide v Brisbane - New Zealand (N)
Port Adelaide v Essendon - Football Park (N)
Western Bulldogs v Carlton - Colonial

Sunday, 18 February
Hawthorn v Richmond - Launceston

My tips are as follows:

Kangaroos
Saint Kilda
Geelong
Fremantle
Brisbane
Port Adelaide
Western Bulldogs
Hawthorn

P.S. - With all the night games, what the chance of a blackout?

It really is a lottery of a competition but here goes my guesses!

West Coast v Kangaroos - Subiaco (N)
Biased maybe...but Eagles

Collingwood v Saint Kilda - Colonial (N)
Saints can't afford to look bad early. Pies are just bad naturally...so Saints.

Geelong v Sydney - Darwin (N)

Monsoon rains and a scraggy win by Swans

Saturday, 17 February
Fremantle v Melbourne - Subiaco (N)

Freo have something to prove...Demons don't...so freo.

Adelaide v Brisbane - New Zealand (N)

Brisbane will be too good

Port Adelaide v Essendon - Football Park (N)
Close one, shaded by port who have more to prove and will be harder at the ball.

Western Bulldogs v Carlton - Colonial

Doggies will prove that clawin and scratchin can beat skill.
Sunday, 18 February

Hawthorn v Richmond - Launceston

Hawthorn to handle the cold weather better.

Ok, lets see.

West Coast v Kangaroos - Eagles a lot to prove at home, Kangaroos have top record in the Ansett Cup, TIP Eagles, only because it is at home

Geelong v Sydney - Geelong did not lose one game interstate last season and made the finals, Sydney expect to be in the finals this season. With a forecast of cyclonic conditions 4 goals may be the winning score. Sydney are leaving behind Stafford, Geelong Hocking and McGrath, Geelong have a tall side and if the forecast is right will struggle. TIP Sydney if wet, Geelong if dry, based on the forecast, Sydney.

Collingwood v StKilda - The saints are racked with injuries, Collingwood have a lot to prove to themselves and Mick Malthouse and Malcolm Blight traditionally don't favour the Ansett Cup, but one has to win. StKilda even though the finished last have WAY more talent than Buckley. TIP StKilda comfortably.

Fremantle v Melbourne - On Ansett Cup form you would back Melbourne, on home form, you back the Dockers. Melbourne are a class act, The Dockers still are yet to prove themselves. TIP Melbourne by more than 5 goals

Port Adelaide v Essendon - All I can say is go Port. Oh, how I want you to win this one, but truthfully I can't see it happening. TIP Essendon easily

Adelaide v Brisbane - Could be an interesting game in NZ, Garry Ayres doesn't care that much about the Ansett Cup though. TIP In Adelaide, Adelaide, anywhere else Brisbane

Bulldogs v Carlton - One of the hardest games to pick, both teams were disappointing come the finals in 2000 and we really don't know where they are at the minute, Carlton seem a little underdone without Kouta and SOS, Bulldogs seem pretty clear for injuries. TIP Bulldogs, just.

Hawthorn v Richmond - The HARDEST game to pick two of my top 4 for 2001 and both look like challenging this year. A lot of injuries in 2000 will mean that their pre-season probably wasn't as strong as Hawthorn's with a lot of players in re-hab. Carwford is back and firing for Hawthorn and the Tigers have already lost Richo. TIP Hawthorn, just.

Ok here goes nothing

West Coast vs Kangroos:On paper the Roos look the better side, but you cant discount the eagles home ground advantage
Eagles are my tip

Collingwood vs Saints:pretty easy here,Saints have drafted well and are well coach, with a strong list.Collingwood arnt
Saints easily

Geelong vs Sydney:Geelong I believe to be once again underated but, again sydney have allot to prove and considering I havent seen the list im going to go out on a limb here and say
Sydney just

Fremantle vs Melbourne:pretty easy here
Mighty Dockers

Adelaide vs Brisban:And so begins Adelaides decent down the ladder where the playing list suggests they belong.Brisban again need to start performing
Brisban by a mile

Port vs Essendon:What is shapping up like another weak season for the People of south Australia.Port again with a weak list.
Essendon by a mile

Western bulldogs vs Carlton:Carlton were hit hard during the trading season and many of there stars are still out.Bulldogs on the slide
Bulldogs just

Hawthorne vs Richmond:Another tough decision both have allot to prove and what seems like strong lists.
Hawthorne by the thinest of margins.

Cant wait till i hear all your pathetic smug arrogant and ignorant childlike moronic filth excuses when collingwood beat the saints,YOUS CAN ALL GET WELL AND TRULY ROOTED
just goes to show how much yous all know about football, admittingly the saints have recruited well but so have collingwood like the saints we to are a new look team,to go on and say stkilda will win easily only means one thing, yous all talk through your ass.

Not that it is really relevant but here goes:
Kangaroos
StKilda
Sydney
Melbourne
Brisbane
Essendon
Carlton
Hawthorn

I would not be surprised if Melbourne lose. They are taking a second rate side over and there will be a huge home ground advantage to the Dockers.

You could take half a squad over there & still beat them.

I am now donning my fireproof suit.

WC v Kangaroos - WC, only because they're at home.
Collingwood v Saints - St. Kilda, in a close one.
Geelong v Sydney - Sydney by a mile.
Fremantle v Melbourne - Freo, I honestly think they're under-rated.
Adelaide v Brisbane - Brisbane will step all over Adelaide.
Port Adelaide v Essendon - Essendon, but I'm going for Port
Western Bulldogs v Carlton - Bullies
Only because of the injuries the blues have.
Hawthorn v Richmond - Hawks in a close one.

Just thought I should tell everyone that Gherig won't be playing the Ansett Cup and Harvey will be missing against Collingwood (as far as I know). Was in todays paper! That change any of your "predictions"?

West Coast may be at home, but they don't give a fig about Ansett Cup, whereas Roos do. TIP the Roos.

Saints might read too much hype about themselves, so TIP Collingwood.

Geelong are OK, Sydney are on the way back. TIP Sydney perhaps in a close one.

I'd just give the nod to TIP Freo in WA.

Port say they are going all out for the Ansett Cup, but even so I don't think they have the ability to overcome Essendon. So TIP Dons.

TIP Bulldogs, yes, in a close one, because Carlton aren't putting a team on the track.

And to go totally against the trend on this thread I'm going to TIP Crows, who have picked a fairly strong squad, over Brisbane who have a longish list of non-starters.

well i haven't thought about all the games but i am going to go for:

St.Kilda... i mean they have such a good team now i think it will be close but they'll manage to win
Essendon... i hope not but come on they are playing Port
Melbourne... and no i am not being baist, i mean taking into considiration the fact that we wont have woey, whitey, shcwarta, febey, mcdonaldS, johnstone or powell. and that its not our home ground... i think we'll win!

GO DEES!
