So watching Jack close in on 600 Goals (which almost guarantees membership of the AFL Hall of Fame - what is the VFL/AFL's greatest Goal-kicking (closely) related duo?

As in Brothers, Father-Sons, or First Cousins.

A quick glance shows me this (All of these "duos" that have kicked at least 1,000 Goals).

1. 1,426 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,030 Goals) & Gary Ablett Jnr. (396 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE
2. 1,361 GOALS - Gordon Coventry (1,299 Goals) & Syd Coventry (62 Goals).
3. 1,360 GOALS - Tony Lockett (1,360 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin. Only daughters right?
4. 1,296 GOALS - Nick Riewoldt (718 Goals) & Jack Riewoldt (578 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE
5. 1,254 GOALS - Jason Dunstall (1,254 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin. Right?
6. 1,206 GOALS - Peter Hudson (727 Goals) & Paul Hudson (479 Goals).
7. 1,163 GOALS - Saverio Rocca (748 Goals) & Anthony Rocca (415 Goals).
8. 1,057 GOALS - Doug Wade (1,057 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.

Have I missed any?

I'm sure I have as I haven't looked closely at the Family Trees of Jack Titus & Leigh Matthews in particular. I know Matty Lloyd had a father and brother who've played in the VFL/AFL but they didn't kick many goals at all. Only a literal handful between them.

I am surprised Lockett ended up only 1 goal behind the Coventry brothers! Didn't anyone ever tell him they had him by a single goal!

As for Abletts v Riewoldts, surely the Riewoldts have got to be the favourites at this stage...

Any other 1,000 GOAL Family duos I've missed out?

Kelvin Matthews managed 169 goals, to go with (brother) Leigh Matthews 915 = 1084.

Gary snr had a couple of brothers play VFL, of course Gary jnr's brother Nathan is in there, too. Plus their cousins, the Tucks (sons of Michael). Will be pushing 2000 goals, all tolled.

Fair play. Updated for the Matthews brothers.

Amazing how many Lockett has on his own.

I'd take another 130 goals from Jack at this stage if it was offered. That's another two full seasons after this at his current level.

Congratulations to the Riewoldts becoming only the third family 'pair' to combine to kick 1,300 Goals tonight.

The Riewoldts only 123 behind the Abletts now and I notice Jack has just signed a new contract.

The Germans have the English in their sights.

Interesting. I notice the Rocca Brothers are the only Family 'Duo' not to have a member in the Hall of Fame... (Of those who are eligible - Riewoldt too recently retired obviously but will be straight in).

Surely Sav will get a gig one of these years....

Perhaps a milestone 400th Goal for Ablett this week against Fremantle. Surely it will be.

Updated following Round 22. 400 Goals for Gary Ablett Jnr. - only the second Father-Son to do this in VFL/AFL history.

The Riewoldts only 115 behind the Abletts now. Could be within 100 by year's end.

Can Gary Ablett Jnr. catch the the other 'Son' with 400 Goals Paul Hudson on 479 Goals? Will require at least two more years playing as a permanent forward one would think - which would also take the Ablett's just over 1,500 Goals all-up...

Tough, but not impossible, but in all likelihood unlikely as many would agree 2019 is likely to be Ablett's last season......

Nathan Ablett's 46 Goals takes the Ablett trio to 1,476 Goals closer to the 1,500 Goal mark......

Updated following the Home & Away........ Of course finals to come for both Ablett & Riewoldt.

1. 1,432 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,030 Goals) & Gary Ablett Jnr. (402 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE
2. 1,361 GOALS - Gordon Coventry (1,299 Goals) & Syd Coventry (62 Goals).

5. 1,254 GOALS - Jason Dunstall (1,254 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin. Right?

7. 1,163 GOALS - Saverio Rocca (748 Goals) & Anthony Rocca (415 Goals).
8. 1,084 GOALS - Leigh Matthews (915 Goals) & Kelvin Matthews (169 Goals).

The Riewoldts only 112 behind the Abletts now. Could be within 100 by year's end.

i can see jack kicking 100-150 more goals by the end of his career, depending on his body holding up. he's always relied more on smarts than athleticism so old age shouldnt hit him like it does many other forwards. if you pencil in abblett for 30-40 goals next year and assume thats the end, it would be very close.

for such a pointless stat i love it haha

A reason for Ablett to play forward and make a real go of it!

Defending the Family Honour of his Father (& Brother perhaps).

At current rates, Jack needs about 3 seasons to overtake the Abletts. Should be 70-75 behind by the end of 2019.
