Williams will surprise you.
Williams might also be surprised that he'll need to be a freak to perform consistently the way North's midfield distribute and spread. He'll have some chance as a half back if he can learn to contest.

Unusual selections from North. The now, soon and contract renewal philosophy in full swing. Joyce and Scott, the masters of mediocrity and covering arse.

Consecutive years of throwing first rounders at anyone even remotely capable of being fit for selection to push Thomas out. Small forward first rounders is mediocrity on a platter. Consecutively is taking the piss. Complete denial from North that Dal Santo, Wells, Harvey are gone and Swallow and Gibson are rubbish.

The good thing about having contract renewal specialists in senior coaching and recruiting is North's best will always be in front of them. Permanently.

If all of North's midfielders remain fit...

If all of the recruited injury prone players...

If the talls don't take too much time...

If the jibs can get it together...

This list has been built to have about a 25% chance of ever peaking. The excuses will overtake the holes by mid season.

Not a fan of Battle. Glad we didn't pick him up.

We already picked Ridley with 20 (22). McCluggage and McGrath were very hard to split so we did well getting either. Don't know who the other two are, but I'm very happy with Begley and Clarke.

Not a fan of battle yet you rate begley?
Clarke will do nithing mccluggage was the clear best player. Family ties and politics meant you drafted the lesser player 179cm mcgragh. professional fail.

Battle ar 39 is the steal of the draft.

McGrath beats McCluggage for speed, disposal, clearances and defensive mindset. McCluggage certainly has some huge strengths, but to say one was a clear cut #1 when they just got drafted at #3 is ridiculous. But heh, if we've got the Luke Hodge to Brissie's Judd, I won't complain. To say we failed the draft for that is ridiculous.

Battle has a real risk he won't be good enough against AFL level defenders who can match his engine. Begley averaged 5 goals a game as a forward before going into the midfield. Coming off a terrible base, so lots of room for improvement. There is a lot to like. I had him as a strong preference for #29 before the night.

I do like begley. Very awesome skill

Not sure if you were watching on fox, but did you see the video of Venables at home when his name was called? His poor Mum looked like she was about to break down in tears.
Aren't most Mums like that when their sons get drafted interstate. To them they are still their little boys and the thought of them having to move interstate is a bit overwhelming for them (on the day) I would think. They normally get over it within a couple of days and are thrilled for their sons that they got drafted.

Begley has huge upside if you consider where he was at the beginning of the season. Phenomenal improvement in his game and fitness in a very short amount of time.

I've got a real soft spot for the Kangas, cousins are big Kanga people and I go to a few game a year with them.
I'm really disappointed with the two 30's picks, just don't understand what they where thinking.
By the start of the season all of Tarrant, Hansen and Thompson will be 28 or older. Durbin, Nielsen, EVW all yet to debut. Had to take a KPD.

Then for the other one it's a matter of whether to get the best accumulator, best ball user, or best speed. Can't get all 3 or really even 2 of 3 at that pick range. They went for pace with good-enough disposal, though Williams does seem to seriously lack penetration in his kicking. It's not universally loved on the North board, but I'm OK with it.

Family ties? Politics?

What are we Canadian now?

McCluggage is good and could be better than McGrath (I wanted McCluggage up until a day before the draft), but that's pure speculation at this point. You don't hype a player up by putting the other player down, especially if the other player is deserving of the number 1 pick. So you're just talking crap.

FWIW, I think Setterfield will be the best player in this draft, followed by McGrath and McCluggage.

Considering that we picked up Clarke with pick 62, it doesn't matter too much if he doesn't come on. Most players at that pick don't.

Battle could be a good pick up, but I'm not a fan of him. I don't know what Begley has to do with me not rating Battle. Different players. Next year's draft is stacked with talls so we'll pick up a forward then.
