Whilst Geelong have never demanded a flag, more of a stellar H&A perennial and ultimate pretender, the following would have to disappoint:

2 x home final losses to Fremantle
1 x home final loss to Sydney
Straight sets at hands of 8th finalist North Melbourne.

Maybe another failure in 2017 would be worse for Chris Scott than Geelong. Agreed that Sydney have more to lose than Geelong (and Adelaide) on Grand Final day itself, but Geelong and Adelaide would be most aggrieved to fail at making a Grand Final once again (most especially historically, but obviously as the top two, in Qualifying finals against opponents with limited experience at that level).
I reckon its flag or bust for Chris Scott

Level of footy has been so poor I think any of Adelaide, Swans, Cats or GWS will be disappointed not to win it from here it's there for the taking. I think any of the premiers post-06 would be a clear cut above in this finals series unless someone can do a Bulldogs and jump a few gears in September.

Sydney, after the heartbreak of 2014 and then 2016.

They've been quality for all of Longmire's tenure, but have only one premiership to show for it which can be considered an underachievement.

They did very well to come back from 0-6 start, and imo if they make the Grand Final this year then they win it!

You have had a lot of disappointments though.

2012 - Lost to Fremantle in the elimination final
2013 - Lost after having a good lead in the prelim
2014 - Straight Sets
2015 - No finals
2016 - Lost a home prelim

I think this year they really have put together a list that is pretty complete, and if the GWS game was anything to go by they are in quite good form.
Of those, only 2013 and 2016 would be considered genuine "missed opportunities".

2012 we finished 6th and clearly weren't premiership material. In 2014, we did finish 3rd but were well off the pace of Hawthorn and Sydney. The Swans flogged us by 100 points, and we had a mediocre run in to the finals, including a defeat by Hawthorn.

2015 was just a crap year. Not so much a "missed chance" as a "never was a chance in the first place".

A berth is a designated location in a port or harbour used for mooring vessels when they are not at sea. Berths provide a vertical front which allows safe and secure mooring that can then facilitate the unloading or loading of cargo or people from vessels.

Adelaide have never made the Grand Final from the top 2 position (3 times). If they miss out this year they may not be in this position next year. History is never good for them the following season.

Another team is Geelong, just 2-8 in the finals since 2011. They will be very disappointed not to make the GF that is for sure.

Geelong have a really poor record since 2011, so I'd think anything less than a GF appearance would be disappointing. Lose to Richmond and Sydney is the likely opponent for them, that doesn't auger well. The winner has so much more upside, they'll get a week off then an interstate side at the G in a preliminary final.

And Geelong are about to lose Mackie and Lonergan. I still think Mackie (who I went to school with as a kid) had a year left in him, he is just as important as Dangerfield, Selwood brothers and co. This may be their last chance at a premiership. Same with Adelaide, probably their final chance and they may have won it last year if they finished in the top 4. So an Adelaide vs Geelong Grand Final would be a treat. 1st vs 2nd in the Grand Final isn't too much of a common thing, but hopefully this is the year.

It would also be nice to see Richmond do well.

Did he sledge you at school? I'd have like to have seen him go again to get 300. Reckon he could have.

Reckon it'll be Geelong v Adelaide or Geelong v Sydney.

I think the winner of the Geelong v Richmond final will definitely make it, but not sure if they'll win it. Really depends on opponent.

Adelaide. Best team of the H&A season, and have a home QF/PF double there for the taking with Port on the other side of the draw. As a non-Vic side finishing top 2 gives you the best chance you'll get.

Geelong next in line. Top 2, and they get a QF against a team that last won a final 4 days after the World Trade Center came crashing down. Win that and they get a home final against one of two non-Vic sides who have pretty dubious records in tough games this year. Geelong have a fair bit to prove. Lucky to win the QF last year after Isaac Smith missed after the siren then outplayed by Sydney in the PF. Straight sets in 2014, lost the famous Kardinia Park final to Freo in 2013 and ended up on the Hawthorn side of the draw.
