Going on the assumption that Richmond draft cousins on Tuesday and he gets back to playing good consistent footy, who has the better midfield, the tigers or the blues??

Cousins, Cotchin, Deledio, Foley(would be best 4 mid options at richmond with apologies to shane tuck and coughlan if fit) versus Judd, Stevens, Murphy, Gibbs(would think they are their best 4 comfortably)

Who do you think has the better combo??

This is the part of the field carlton fans would think they have it over the tigers easily.... do they??

and cotchin over gibbs too but that wasn't the poll question was it?
Not yet he's not. Carlton has three well established quality midfielders and a rising star.
Richmond has a player who has been out of the game for almost 2 years, a promising kid, Deleidio who seems to do his best work on the forward line and Foley who is just establishing himself in the upper echelon but needs to back it up.

I'll take cotchin over gibbs personally thanks, the only thing gibbs has over cotchin is his age, and lids proved he is a class act by winning the b&f this year and will play more and more in the midfield as his career progresses.

As for foley, he struggled at times with heavy tags this year but still did reasonably well and will only get better when he learns how to deal with them. With cousins, who knows but at the very least he takes another stopper from the opposition allowing the other 3 more freedom. Still have to get him yet though....

I'd say Richmond by a whisker, but that's on the assumption Cogs and Cousins get back up.

C: Richo, Deledio, Cousins
R: Simmonds, Cotchin, Foley/Cogs

One thing is for sure - both will be class outfits in 2008.

givent he OP says who would havethe better midfield, here's how i predict them to be rated byt he time they all retire:

1-gibbs
2-judd
3-cousins
4-deledio
5-cotchin
6-murphy
7-foley
8-stevens

and here's how i predict them to go during season 2009:
1-judd
2-deledio
3-cousins
4-foley
5-gibbs
6-murphy
7-stevens
8-cotchin

so it's very tight. i think the blue boys will end up slightly better but i rate the tiges a better midfield in the short-term.

3-kreuze control (Idiot)

Gee you blokes at Carlton over rate Gibbs like crazy, Judd won the brownlow, was vice captain, club champion and AA mid in his third year. Gibbs is entering his third now...

Lol agreed... On top of Captaining his club to a Premiership he'd need at least 2 Brownlows, a Norm Smith and a fistful of club B&Fs for me to concede he has a better career than those two blokes. Feel free to bump this thread if it happens.

Cousins had won the Rising Star and made AA selection by his third year also.

I think people have quickly forgotten how good Ben Cousins was. If he can get anywhere near where he once was Richmond will have a better midfield than Carlton. I do not see what Carlton fans see in Gibbs. I do not see anything special.

1. IMO Cotchin will be a star player. I cannot say the same for Gibbs. Cotchin >> Gibbs
2. Foley = Stevens
3. Deledio > Murphy - provided Deledio plays in midfield
4. Judd > Cousins - Just. I always rated Cousins as a West Coast player higher than Judd. Cousins playing for Richmond rather than WC and the age difference puts Judd slightly ahead.

Both clubs have very talented midfielders coming through, there's no denying that. Can't really make an on the spot judgement, but in theory, you would probably have to say Carlton have the better midfield at this point in time.

Btw, Cousins is likely to become a Tiger but lets not get too ahead of ourselves here. They still have to read his name out in the PSD to confirm he's part of the Richmond Football Club, so until then, lets not act like he he is part of the furniture at TigerLand, yet.

Haven't seen Shane Tuck's name mentioned yet there so I thought I'd put it out there as he's become a quality midfielder. Considering Richo plays through there too there's no doubt in my mind who has the better midfield.

LMAO clearly the only Richmond game you watched was Rd 22 against Melbourne.

Tigers midfield next year would look something like;

Cousins - Tuck - Cotchin
Simmonds - Deledio - Foley

We comfortably have the better ruckman. :thumbsu:

why do opposition supporters think they know richmonds list better than we do(win123). if he was better there we would play him there full time. if he had maybe 2-3 cm more height then sure you could say that but he isnt tall enough to play ff all year and kick bags every week. happy to be proved wrong lids:thumbsu:

One word makes our midfield much better.

DEPTH
Yep. Richmond also have players like Coughlan, Tuck and Richo who aren't named in this scenario, whereas Carlton's midfield falls away pretty quickly after the aforementioned 'A' team.

Also, as previously stated, Richmond would also win the ruck duels 9 times out of 10.

More relevant = 2011 team.

Carlton: Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer
Richmond: Deledio, Foley, Cotchin, Vickery
LMAO of course.

Yet you still neglect Tuck, Raines, Thomson and Hislop out of our 2011 midfield.

Why is it that you are now moving to 2011, when for the last 2 years you have all been so proud of your current superstar midfield? :p

surely you can't be serious. raines, thomson and hislop are hardly anything to write home about. i would much prefer walker, a 31 y.o. stevens, grigg, simpson and yarran running through there.
