why have North invited several players down for pre-season? from what I can see no one will be delisted and no one will be picked up.

But does anyone think someone should be delisted?

Remember:
Calthorpe must stay due to his contract.
All of the October draft picks should be given a chance.

Given Calthorpe's gotta stay then I can only see them delisting someone if there's a player they REALLY want AND think they can get. The way I see it the only possibilities for delisting are VanDerKlooster and Spaull.

How long has Calthorpe's contract got to go, I wouldn't have thought anyone would have signed him up for more than 1 year.
Oh & welcome back, I have missed you, Heh Heh.

Keep the list as it is. We've got something like 10 new players for 2001 and we'll need as many players that are used to the Pagan/Carey ethos to guide these blokes.

As much as I don't like seeing Calthorpe in our seniors, he should do okay guiding some of the young kids in the reserves....if anything, he's an example of how complacency can turn a premiership player/Whitten medallist into someone who will be very lucky to get another contract. Speaking of guiding, if you're reading this Calthorpe, guide the kids AWAY from the buffet table.

As far as i know he was training with us when pre-season training started. Not sure if he'll be chosen but they must have thought highly of him if they invited him to do pre-season with us

My recollection of Warrior the few times he played for the Crows was of a good pacy type who could kick the miraculous goal. Maybe they're thinking of him as a replacement for Winnie when he leaves next year.

I think we need another tall, since we traded Capuano, we only Spider and Corey with no back-up. As good as Spider at the ruck contests, I wouldn't feel confident should anything happen to Corey and we had to rely upon him as our number 1 ruckman - for a whole game every week. Does anybody know whether the ruckman we drafted last year - Lindsay Smith has recovered from his injuries and more importantly can he play??

Groucho, I don't think Eugene Warrior actually played any senior games for the Crows.
Your recollection of him may be based on Ansett Cup games perhaps? Or maybe thinking of Eddie Hocking who was a player similar to which you described.

I noticed this unfamilar bloke hanging out with the North players at the cricket & I'm curious to know if was this Eugene Warrior character. Top name for a footy player by the way, I hope we hang onto him.
Does anybody know where I can dig up a photo of this guy?

Thanks Darky. I don't think I'm confusing him with Eddie Hocking as he was in the early Crows days so it must have been an Ansett Cup game, unless his name just inspired imaginative thoughts on how he should play!!

Cancel that query. I was at the Past Players Association Lunch today & this unknown bloke turned out to be Corey Jones. I'm still curious to know what Warrior looks like but have been unable to dig up much from his former clubs' websites.

Yeah 35eye I've been trying too, I wasn't sure which club Warrior played for last year but I checked out all SANFL clubs, and the SANFL site itself and found nothing.
All I know is he was picked up as #44 in the 1993 draft by Adelaide and didn't go on to play a game. I think he may have been on their list for two years, could be wrong.

Eugene Warrior changed to Glenelg in the SANFL last year because he got off side with a few of the players at Norwood, however he only lasted a few games and then played somewhere in the country. Hes a great aboriginal player, a complete freak. A really fast player and if he gets anywhere within range of goals, no matter the angle he will put it through the middle. He almost won Norwood the 1999 grandfinal off his own boot. I was a little disappointed Port didn't pick him up on their list for the 2000 season.

If anyone would like a picture of Eugene I am sure I can dig up a picture of him, just give me your email address and I will scan a picture for you.

I doubt you would have been getting Eugene mixed up with Eddie Hocking, maybe Shane Tongerie, I remember him playing a few games for the crows and kicked some nice snap shots against the then Brisbane Bears. Eugene however didn't play any senior games for the crows but he is more than capable of stepping into any senior side.

Hope all of this was of some help.

Thanks Scott, you are the newly-proclaimed King of the Internet. We were all scratching our heads looking for info over here, but seemingly to no avail!

Aussie Roo,
The Luncheon was ok. It started with drinks in the Past Players Association's little club room/bar which is under the old grandstand at Arden Street. They've got some amazing old photos down there, certainly worth a look if you ever get the chance.

For lunch we adjourned to the upstairs area of the social club. No real high profile former players were in attendance. (Hope I'm not offending anyone by saying that.) I think I saw Dodger Ryan but none of the guests were really introduced & being a relatively new Roos supporter myself, I didn't recognise any.

Stuart Cochrane came along, he is a bit of a crowd favourite among the association because they Player Sponsor him & he apparently puts in a fair bit of time for the older blokes. It was nice to see him in that light as a direct contrast to the comments made about him in the official forum.

Other invited guests from the current list were Shane Clayton, Daniel Pratt & Corey Jones.

Scott, would you happen to know anything about Corey Jones & his Sturt background? By chance would he have played there the same time as Adam Lange?

I think Dumont must be on thin ice. He's as good a player as he'll ever be. With Cunners, LDU, Jack Z etc. I just can't see how Frogger survives.
Hrovat & K Turner are another two who have had ample opportunity & I think they've reached their ceiling.
