Perhaps wishful thinking with this club, but I'd like to start considering our options as that might be the only thing that keeps be engaged until Goodwin is gone.

Happy to add other options to the poll as they pop up, this was just a list off the top of my head.

Have been super keen on Hale as an assistant for a while, just get him as head coach now, he wouldn't move for anything less anyway.

Would be happy with Longmire, despite history clearly showing new coaches are the way to go over recycled. He's reinvented the Swans enough for me to think he could be the outlier.

Our club/supporter base is shit to the point where we need a name to sell the club and hit the playing group between the eyes from day one.

I still think there's enough upside in the list to think we can bounce reasonably quickly if we nail this appointment.

Missed a trick there by not including Topkent in the vote list there, Scythe94

I’d genuinely be happy to see him have a go. However it turned out, a few strong messages about being dull and unwatchable seem worth a go.

Was going to vote Longmire but then I saw Craig Jennings. I'll take some of that please with a side of delicious irony that Goody kicked him out of Melbourne.
Would be amazing, one of his scapegoats replaces him. 😂

Don't forget Jennings is the only coach to ever win an AFLX premiership. 😎

A bit of a tangent but I’d love to see Burgess back as fitness coach.

David King said something interesting on some thing or other (I was just passing through the room, I’m not really watching the footy analyst shows atm).

He was talking about clubs that talk up their “program” as being the best in the league. His view was that there was little difference in all of them, similar drills, similar running regimes. He reckoned the program was more about motivation and psychology.

Now I usually pay no attention to King, but Burgess said much the same on a Gus and Gawny podcast, that there was no genius involved from him around drills and fitness advice, though he did place emphasis on players across the whole group buying into good nutrition habits and taking that side of things seriously.

He said he viewed his role as mostly trying to make every player believe somehow that for each matchup they had a big edge on their opponent in fitness and endurance. I agree with that one in general. If you can persuade yourself you have the advantage it’s surprising how often it transpires

I heard Adam Simpson on the radio over the weekend and while I enjoy listening to him and think he speaks a lot of sense he basically said that he doesn't believe in the backhalf gamestyle that is in vogue and doesn't believe it stands up in big games. Basically said it was a fad and that he expected front half football based in contest to ultimately win out in the long run.

So I'm a no to him off that.

He comes across good in the media but I've always been a no to him. West Coast shows you all you need to know. I'd take Hinkley over Simpson.

It's simple for me, it's Longmire (highly doubt he'd come here) or it's an assistant who is a switched on with modern trends and innovative. We need to get the players enjoying the game again and being allowed to show off their strengths rather than being forced to be role players in a hyper restrictive system.

Enright is interesting to me without knowing too much about how much say he has on the game plan with the Saints , just from a background perspective with Geelong and the Saints are actually trying to play some attacking football this year. Him being their backline coach and developing the likes of Sinclair and Waganeen-Milera as weapons.

Buckley is still the other option that I'd like (again, doubt he comes here). Good football brain, commands respect, holds people accountable.

Even though it flies in the face of the way that I like to lead teams, we don't need somebody to come in and be best pals with all the players. They need somebody that tells them honest truths and pushes them to get the best out of themselves. The arrogance/fear of change that has permeated through the club since a hot finals run four years ago has been the main thing that has held us back - enough coasting on that.

EDIT: I don't mean a Neeld type lol. Somebody with balance, and I believe Buckley and Longmire both have that.

I don't really care if they are best friends with the players. You can still be ruthless with list management and get along great with everyone.

I do if it results in a team that should've been contending (previously, not this year) giving full selection immunity to players such as Sparrow, Salem, Spargo, Petty etc.

Now whether that's because of Goodwin's bias toward his pals that helped him win a flag, I can't say for certain. But there's an implication there.

Goodwin leads teams in a way that modern corporate leaders do + should, and I can guarantee that he's attended a variety of leadership courses tailored to that approach.

Where that breaks down is that this is a very different industry and dynamic. That approach can lend itself to coasting on the back of previous results/success, and it's very apparent that (shit gameplan aside) there's not enough will to evolve and improve at the club currently - premiership players from 2021 know their money and role in the team moving forward is nearly absolutely secure (and that their coach will make excuses for them if they underperform), so where is the drive coming from?

All of that goes with what I said about needing to be ruthless with list management. Im in total agreement with you about Goody, just saying there is a different way to do things while having everyone like you. I would say Mitchell has the balance of what im talking about. He seems to get along well with his guys but is happy enough to trade guys away, let them walk and look for upgrades.

In an ideal world id love a Kingsley where a coach is scary but are respected enough that the players respond to it but im not sure how common that is these days.

Bucks' game plans have been pretty defensive over his coaching journey. He could possibly evolve but I'd be concerned if we got him .
