We often talk about strongest premiership sides, weakest premiership sides and strongest runners up - but a topic seldom discussed is the weakest runners up.

Which runners up do you rate as the weakest and why?

Still Port 2007. Was a weak year overall with Port and West Coast 2nd & 3rd on 15 wins and North 4th on 14. Magnified by the record margin on GF day. 2007 wasn't the peak for Geelong, but it was the biggest gap they had to anyone else within a season.

I reckon at full strength we were the second best if not best team that year but faltered after the half way mark. Geelong would've made light work of us in the GF just as they did Port with the side we had on the park.

Who would the worst premiers happen to be?

Definitely that team that beat my team that time.

'Worst. Premiers. Everrr.' is a badge to wear with pride. We could be that team 4 times, but that means we've won 4 flags. I'm happy for WC to be the worst premier ever every year.

Also one of Hawthorn and Brisbane are the worst 3 peat side of this century.

The GF we should have had in 2007 was Geelong vs a fully fit West Coast.

Easily Carlton 1999. Finished 6th with a 12-10 record. Were lucky to get through the first week of finals after being belted. Week 2 got to play against the Eagles at the MCG as the away team. Then got the Bombers on a poor day where they couldn't kick straight and were eventually put away comfortably by North in the GF

That QF loss killed us and decided the GF match up. The week off would've been a godsend for us. Unlikely we'd have Cousins for the GF (22 day turnaround for a hammy - maybe?) but would've been able to give Judd a week off and regained Kerr for the prelim. More than likely would've beaten North easily then lost to Geelong.

Had we beaten the Pies in the semi that went to extra time I reckon Geelong would've beaten us by 10 goals in the prelim. Running on absolute fumes.

Scott Lucas kicking 7 goals in a quarter against you in Round 22 is what killed you. You still won that game but you lost the percentage required for Top 2 which meant you had to play us in Adelaide.

You almost definitely beat us if that QF is played in Perth (and Judd and Cousins might not have gotten injured), then get a week off before an easy home PF against North.

Who TF voted Freo 2013? We weren't great but **** me we performed better than the Hawks next two opponents in their dynasty.

Our two halves, however, were chalk and cheese

First half - yes
Second half - no
Didn't think the swans were that bad - the hawks just played out of their skins in 2014. Still, WC 15 were by far worse, at least you guys took the opportunity to get back in the game, they kept on choking all day long.

People voting for Port 07 is revisionist history

Port 07 weren't terrible. Had a very bad day and Geelong went into complete God mode. Port beat Geelong at Kardinia a month before. Geelong had a shocker against Collingwood in the Prelim and just scraped through. Felt they got all their cobwebs and jitters out that night and just went full bore 110% the next week.

Geelong having a shocker against Collingwood in the prelim of 2007 is a fallacy that Port supporters tell themselves to make them feel better.

We clashed with Geelong twice in 2007 for an average losing margin of under 2 goals. We matched up very well against them at the time (beat them by 100 in 2006 and 86 in 2008) and were with them for basically all of the prelim. Two or three goals was about the right result.
