I think Adelaide will be the team to beat.....but I'll be cheering for any of Tigers, Cats and GWS.

....and Melbourne if they get through.

Also don't underestimate the input Nick Maxwell has on them. No coincidence that form dropped when he was told to get off and not set up their structures.

Their worst run was against bad opposition - two wins by less than a goal against non-top 8 teams, two losses to non-top 8 teams including Carlton and barely beating Richmond and Essendon at home and West Coast away.

The furore over Maxwell was after that run, and he was still on the field doing the same during the Lions game.

After that GWS played better teams, going 0-2-2 against three top five teams and Hawthorn in Tassie, which is probably better than the earlier results indicate, and now 3-0 against two ok teams and the Dockers.

So basically I'm arguing that GWS was worse with Maxwell on the field.

If the top 5 stays as it is then I'd pick Richmond to lose to Adelaide in week 1 and Sydney in week 2.

That would prompt an absolute meltdown.

Richmond's premiership provides an opportunity to assess where we are at, given that they are top and we are bottom in 2017. In particular, how do we compare to them at this stage with regards to the following:
    1. Experience/inexperience watch - in particular average age and average experience: Richmond v Lions
    2. Quality of Lists: Richmond v Lions - in particular A graders/potential A graders

I am sure there are heaps of other variables as well but I thought these were the big 2 as far as starting some discussion about points of difference.

How old are Dusty, Cotchin and Rance?

I do not see us being genuine title contenders until our player such as Hipwood, Schache, McCluggag, Berry etc are in the same age bracket. So still another 6, 7 or 8 years away.

It was spun out of another thread after the discussion got a life of its own.

Interesting coincidence - Bulldogs jumped from 7th in 2015 to premiers after falling one place out of the hardest draw bucket (1-6). Richmond jumped from 13th to premiers after falling one place out of the top two draw buckets (1-6; 7-12). Wonder if we're going to start seeing tanking at the end of the year to get a better draw the following year.
