Who's still hurting?

Saw a few of the Collingwood boys at Tramp on Saturday night. Dawesy was still visibly upset and didn't move from the couch for a long time. The man was devastated :(

Hopefully fire in the belly for next season. The man is a monster. Hopefully he starts believing in his abilities more and takes the game on with both hands.

Was pretty disappointed for the first night after the game but after talking to a few people about it and the good things that will come next year, I was ok.

Moved on but reflective.

Started going pear shaped for us 8 weeks ago and had all the hallmarks of Ess 01 and Lions 04 for me. Too many blokes missing decent amount of games in the back half of the season. Toovey, Maxwell, Dawes, Shaw, Wellingham, Jolly, Reid, Thomas, Beams. 9 of our 22 = pushing s*&^ up hill. That's why the Prelim was such an outstanding effort. Thought we were just about gone at 3/4 time in the GF, the guys gave their all but had nothing left in the tank.

Have no problem leaving Reid on Hawkins. Reid had no other match up once Pod went down. What to do? Sub him and then watch Geelong throw Ottens forward? Nup. In the end they beat us around the stoppages and out muscled us, but there were reasons.

Flags are just so hard to win even when you're top team.

Reload and go again. :thumbsu:

P.S. '79 hurt the most for me.

after seing all those finals loses 1970 onwards i hate looseing any final , we will learn from this hopefully and be the machine we know we can be ,go u mighty pies

a wasted season. It hurts. And the Mick stuff makes it harder. Feels like things are on the brink of getting a bit ugly. But Mick and Ed are good people and I hope they can hold it together and the club moves on.

'02 hurt a lot; it was a game we should have won. '03 was just numbing. But '79 and '81 will be forever etched into me (and I was at the G for all these finals).

i half expected to lose, so not hurting as bad.

was gutted at the time though as I thought we'd win it at 3/4 time

the most dissapointing this is that I feel it was there for us this year moreso than any I can remember. Clearly the best side imo and it all went wrong at the worst time.

I don't reckon there was a side in the comp that would have got within 5 goals of us in about Round 15 when we were switched on

Maxy knew about Mick not staying and I reckon he let the group in on it, and it affected them.

We haven't looked right for quite a while, actually around the time Mick reckons he let the higher ups know he wasn't staying, like I said, Maxy reckons he knew.

As Swoop intimated, Mick made it all about himself. Not sorry to see the back of him.

I'm actually more optimistic about 2012 than I was about 2011.

I haven't read any newspapers, listened to any sports radio, or watched any footy programs since Saturday.

Still upset.

Brisbane won 2002 and 2003 because they were the better side of those years.

We were the better side this year, and we lost. Not due to anything we could have managed. When key players get injured and suspended at the end of the year, what can you do about it?

I am now looking forward to next year and therefore I am not hurting as much now but the hurt on Sunday was painfull. I must saying watching Dawsey cry got me as well. Its good to see he bleeds black and white and hopefully have a big season for us next year.

Hurt bad for the first few days. More like a bad dream now.
Just hope the boys will take it on board and step up for a big one next year. The thing that worries me is they might take an attitude of "we were so good this year, and we still couldnt win". If they do that then all is lost.
So let's hope they start thinking positively. I think this is where Maxy as a captain will step in and whip them into the right mindset.

Not as bad as I expected, I think due to Geelong being seriously good and a likeable sort of club. Also winning last year helps. These things are bloody hard to win and if we missed our chance in this period i'd be spewing more. (Like St Kilda.) I'm not enjoying other clubs w***er supporters loving it so much. Most of them support crap sides who haven't won anything for ever and act like they won the norm smith themselves.
Agree!
As a Cats' supporter, that was also disappointing. Had so many w***ers cheering against Collingwood rather than for the Cats.
Bad form!
Then, I guess, it is really a compliment to the Pies. You only hate what you fear.
And they do fear you!!
Just bitter wannabe w***ers!

my head still hurts from partying too hard after our win :(. Always next year peoples but i think collingwood might struggle next year if they turn away from their press. and if they still use it cats know how to beat it. Cats will beat any team one on one and know how to beat the press due to their players have a super competitive nature and will do anything to get a touch of the footy. Think collingwood will need to get more players that go hard at the ball (inside players). :footy:

Yea i think you are right, might struggle to make top 8 next year. If only we could get Ling to somehow come out of retirement and play for us next year we might be chance.

Didnt say that did i?? I said Collingwood will struggle against Geelong next year just like this year regardless if they change their tactics or not. They dont have players that go as hard at the ball as the cats.

I was pretty young in 2002/03 when we lost those Grand Finals but I was at both games and was crushed after the nail biter in 2002.

This year is my first GF loss as an adult and boy it hurt. I've refused to watch any football related shows, watch the replay or read the sports section of the newspaper (and I love reading the sports stuff). I also have never been able to watch GF1 from 2010, I don't know why.

Is anyone else as effected by the loss as me or have we moved on pretty well since Saturday?

I am surprised you can't watch the 2010 Grand Final Draw, is a very close game;) and is part of the 8 day roller coaster ride that scored you the flag.

It took me till last year to re watch the 2004 GF, but I am glad I did, really was able to appreciate how hard they battled to try and get the 4th.

I think the amount of media mud that get thrown around at any grand final loser is both unfair and unwarranted, while the teams that lost a week earlier walk away scott free.

The hurt's almost completely dissipated now; just a slight dull ache in my heart, and a feeling of disappointment remains. More than anything though, rather than continuing to look back at what could have been, I'm looking forward to Trade Week, the release of the 2012 fixture, and the Draft; not to mention the start of Season 2012. Bring it on! :thumbsu:

We only need a decent injury run without the off-field distractions to have your measure next year.

Run along now bandwagoner.

The Press? The media played it up and the the Bombers come out and used their version to ridiculous proportions. At one stage 13 of there players had roamed into their offensive 50 for what? The ball to be smacked back over their heads to 3 opposition players standing alone in the middle.

Beating the press has been seen as some form of genius. FFS, the media and some posters have low expectations of a coach's football brain.

Geelong thought they could handball their way out of it last year because they were stuck in their ways. Pissy 1 metre handballs. When they went back to a simpler style of footy, they kicked their way out of it. The saints did it in GF1 last year as well. Hawthorn had players who were willing to forget a block and peel off for a handball. Two pies go after the player and surprise.....the hangouts gets a free possession by being smarter.

Attributing last years flag to the press is BS. Run and spread is what hurt sides when we came out of the backline. This was probably the biggest thing missing from our last few games but it was also lax during the year. Count how many times you saw up the ground from a backman's perspective (TV) and saw pies players making half arsed leads to the boundary? Too many.

It hurts! Nowhere near as much as 1970, not as humiliating as 1980. Last year helps. Memory is a very short term thing, as premiers2011 shows: last year it was the cats who were too slow, too old, this year they are unbeatable?! I don't think so.

Full points to the cats. A great club and a fantastic team. Once the excitements died down though, they have got to ask themselves what happened 2008 & 2010? This is a team that should have won 5 in a row, not 3 in 5. One thing that impresses me is they play with pride: something the pies need to discover.

I'd be interested in a survey of loosing gf supporters & what the impact on the next week has been. I feel like my whole world has fallen apart .....

Yeah, it still hurts. Not as devestated as I was on Saturday and Sunday; but, now the depression of NO football for months has also set in.

I just want to see some action....delisting, preseason, draft, etc.....I need my Pies!

You dont know anything about me to come up with the assumption of me being a "bandwagoner". And you werent the only team going into the grand final with injuries!!! Players play injured all the time in the afl. Steve Johnson showed if you have anough heart and will you will play well regardless. Lost our full forward at the start of the game. Lost one of our best forwards in menzel before finals, Stevie J playing injured, wojinski played with tight calves. Ling played with a broken nose choking on blood for the rest of the game. But still we won because we have players who dont give up and will do whatever they can to win. The injury excuse is a bit of a joke because greatness is achieved by those who really want it regardless of any weakness standing in their way;)

This. The journos are really pissweak these days. They have the memory capacity of a goldfish and so they can only react to the most recent thing. Remember how Geelong were finished when Sydney beat them just a few short weeks ago...

I was pretty down until Sunday when I went to the Family Day at Gosch's Paddock. The players, Ed, Bucks and even Mick looked pretty up-beat so I kind of thought if they can live through it, so can I.

However I did prepare myself all week leading up to it in the case that we lost to not get too down about it, because I remember the feeling of sitting at the G during the first grand final last year thinking we had lost it and how bad that was and thought I don't want to go through that again.

I've not got as high expectations next year as I did this year, but I just hope that the Pies players are really hurting themselves deep down and that fires them up to be unstoppable next year, and I think that's very likely and with Bucks as coach I'm sure they'll come up with something fresh in terms of game plan.
