Interesting topic. On one hand Iook at trees and grass and rivers around me and think it's absolutely ridiculous that anyone can think they own it. Yet in the other hand shelter and home is a fundamental part of human needs.
And there is no doubt the British Crown at the time simply took ownership and declared ownership there's with disregard for everything and everyone else.
Yet that was 220 years + so much has changed and we need to focus on now.
If we really want to unite Australia we need a shared vision that acknowledges everyone.
Change the date the flag the anthem and everything. Start afresh. Yet we are so resistant to change it isn't funny.
But what do we want? Sure argue about biology who's history is correct or some other crap but we as a country need to address what we really want in the future

Everyone's a heartfelt socialist, supportive of every minority.... Until you ask them to give up anything.

And anyone with more wealth then them is "the problem".

"Share it, fair it, but don't take a slice of my pie"

BTW, just bought a nice chunk of coastal land for an investment.. and yeah, it's mine.
And they’re all on BF it seems instead of protesting a few days ago they were to busy sitting in front of their computer screens.

It's really starting to get tangential, but I've always found it interesting that many of the same people who claim you are benefiting from the actions of previous generations are often the same who also denounce having too much of a connection to history (i.e. "Why are you taking credit for what happened 150 years ago? You did nothing.")

Or maybe that's the cynic in me coming out.

We continue to benefit from past injustices. It’s not a judgement on people here today.
Very correct, it should not be a judgement on people here today. Some on here like the poster I was replying to seem to want to pass judgement on people here today.

We may not have committed the crimes but We have a responsibility for making amends. We have failed there.
I haven't done jack sh*t as far atrocities on indigenous people, I'm really disliking you putting me (and everyone else) as a responsibility for the atrocities of 200+ years ago mate.

More than happy to bear some responsibility as a common collective for reconciliation going forward, but I will NOT accept that I have some responsibility for something that happens more than a century and a half before I was born. That sh*t don't fly mate.

My family were 65 years off setting foot on this rock when the ANZACS took their hiding and still we have to put up with the tubthumping about how a bunch of guys getting slaughtered in Turkey under the control of the English at the behest of the Russians somehow defines this country.

Well my family was part of that hiding, and WWII so it has great relevance to me personally.

That does not define this country, it's not meant to define, it's meant to show reflection of fighting for freedom. Part only of the definition of this country - fighting for freedom bit.

What defines this country is much much broader than just my 'white grandpa and great grandpa went to war for me and you herp derp'

INB4 'what about the first nations people, who went into bat for them?', well the only way to alleviate that is total decolonization, so where will you live next?, will the 'whitie aussies' invade the pacific islands for somewhere to 'colonize' to appease the indigenous here? What's your solution? Have you returned your land yet?

My family weren't in Australia though, using your logic why should we give a sh*t about your dead rels?

By the same token why should I give a sh*t about anyone? It's not all about you or me and my rels is it, nor is it all about Aboriginals, it's about ALL Australians, don't be so ignorant.

I'm not asking you to give a sh*t, I'm telling that world wars and disastrous decisions on part of the british empire re the Australian imperial forces does not define this country

Yea nah, that wont fly..

I haven’t committed any offence or crime and be stuffed if I’m gonna keep on hearing that i have.

What more amends needs to be made, a sorry was meant to heal the wounds, hasn’t worked, acknowledgement at every meeting or envelope opening about whose land and future leaders (im surprised its not in a building code that its not a requirement to have what land it is provided) millions upon millions of dollars Into the issue, programs upon programs( some good, some bad) run all at the tax payers expense..

You talk about responsibility, perhaps that should also go back on some community groups who have wasted whats been provided or just refuse to advance even a tiny bit...

When is enough enough or is it decided when the inner city supporters who like to be show how woke they are to their rich mates decide.??

You really are a fu**en d/h
No doubt but what part of my post was wrong? Suvla Bay was a spectacular failure, we did it entirely on behalf of other countries, it had no benefit to us, hundreds of innocent Australians died for no good reason I can think of and yet we use it as nation defining.

The sloganeers don't care about Aboriginals.

It's a fashion statement. Like wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt.

If you dont buy into hereditary guilt then why are you still buying into hereditary land transfer? The answer is very easy if you dont buy into either.
Why would you buy anything then. It would be far better to just rent and spend everything you earn. All incentive to do more than you need to get by would be pointless. Sounds about as awesome as the old defunct communist era USSR.

Hardly likely to get me to rage, i even managed to ignore another welcome to my own country and read through the first page... Still didn’t guilt me into thinking its my fault for something 200 years ago

Over policing for a start. Disparities in sentencing and in prosecution despite no disparities in crime rates (ie vehicle crime in NT and WA). Closing remote communities despite evidence showing the best outcomes for indigenous people in terms of health. Less access to healthcare services.
Over policing is relative. There are remote communities where domestic violence against women and abuse of children is off the charts compared to more populated suburban areas.

Health outcomes will be worse when you chose to live 200 km from a hospital.

Education outcomes will be worse when you don't send your kids to school.

It comes back to that not every remote area can be supported by the same standard of policing, health, education etc as the general standards in metropolitan areas. And some communities have become so dysfunctional that they should be shut down.

The argument about Australia Day and whose land it is just a distraction from the real problems.

Don't concern yourself with high rates of Aboriginal incarceration and domestic/sexual assaults in communities.

Let's channel our unresolved personal anger and hatred of society into changing the date, that's the solution.

Colonisation itself.
Colonization was 250 years ago. the unequal benefits and loses of it has nothing to do with australians living today. The only linkage people make is bloodlines which again has nothing to do with us. maybe if we lived in a highly aristocratic society where rights, education, jobs and power was passed down bloodlines then you could say we beneft from from the unjustness of colonization but we dont live in such a society anymore where power, rights, education and jobs are linked to blood. only inheritance is still linked to blood, the last major racist link of our society, but even that in australia is well and truly disipated and dispersed from the wealth of our blood ancestors 200 years ago. Inheritance links tend only last 3-4 generations in Australia.
