He wanted to leave to return to Victoria.

I'd have these 2 players around the same mark, but Black has the ability to be a better player.

Copeland is one of the most underestimated and underrated players in the AFL.

Probably due to the widely held perception that all he can do is play a tagger's role.

Yep, he has played this role frequently but that's not to say he hasn't got the ability to do a lot more,

From memory, he kicked 4 goals on debut (or maybe it was his second game).

He can also kick the ball a loooong way.

Anyway, this "tagger" business often belies true athletic ability.

That spoil on Buckley in the 2003 GF was one of the most skilful efforts I've seen.

It's not easy to run full pace at a stationery opponent from BEHIND, leap up over him, punch the ball away and then land in such a manner as to not get in his back and concede a free.

Black is extremely damaging on his day...but he does struggle against the better sides IMO.

Perhaps Copeland would struggle if he played in a pathetic side, too.

Agreed. If the Saints and Lions did a direct swap, I wouldn't be unhappy at all.

Black has undergone a transformation from a gun to a complete dud that isnt worthy of a spot in St.Kilda's list and Copeland has gone from dud to hard arse defender/utility who will continue to earn his spot in a fantastic line up. Copeland by a mile
