why are Port allowed interstate finals?

There is nothing fair about this season.
It is just a season to get games done.
Some clubs have had no home ground advantage games in 17 rounds of football. There is nothing fair about a team finishing high boosted by much more home ground advantages in 17 rounds getting more home ground advantages in finals based on the advantages they already gained from already.
Would have been fairer to base this seasons finals series in all Queensland given crowds maximisation cannot be the priority in current circumstances league works within.
If Port and Brisbane top two, the fairest way of doing it, in this weird season schedule would have been Brisbane play their finals at Gold Coast and Port at the Gabba, imo. But it is not going to happen so not worth worry about too much given the season already has to be compromised anyway.

There is nothing fair about any AFL season. Some clubs get the big games, some clubs get to open the season every year even though they don't deserve it on form, some clubs get to play other big clubs twice a year every year. Some clubs don't travel to Geelong or Tassie, some clubs go years without playing away to some clubs or hosting other clubs. Some clubs get to host finals at their home ground, some clubs don't.

Some clubs get 15 games at home, some clubs get 12 every single year, some clubs get 10 or less home games.

This is just a different type of unfair, and since the teams who are getting the benefit here are top two it is not that bad.

Mostly true. Ever since we went away from 12 clubs with playing each other twice, home and away it is not possible to get it 100% fair but still, the starting point of 11 home games and 11 away still is as close to as fair as can aim for. This is the season, most unfair, but not by design. Not AFL's fault it cannot have everyone get same number of real home games. But do not make it even worse if you can avoid it. Hence the OP's fair question in context of this exact season circumstances.

What? The AFL decides the fixture.

As nonsensical as your last post: the AFL can't do anything about the fixture.
The AFL can do something about the fixture. What they could not do this year, is give everyone home games. It is not rocket science to understand the restrictive nature that had to deal with in recent months and still have to push on to have some kind of season happen.
It is not rocket science to realise there will be compromises.
The OP's question was very valid in the circumstances.

One economy is going gangbusters, never been better, bar tourism.

The other one its citizens are under house arrest and economy in tatters.

Where would you rather live?
SA 😀
Would hardly know the virus existed over here. Life is pretty much back to normality for everyone and we are about to become the home of cricket with possibly 2 tests whilst WA gets no tests this summer

The big advantage will be who ever plays port will have to be on a flight at 5 am get to Adelaide try and unwind before a game then play a hard final before flying out the same day

It’s a massive day and a pretty big advantage but they have earned it by winning enough games

when no one else is?

sure they could end up being finished first, but West Coast weren't allowed a final prior to their final position being locked in.

how can you have two clubs with clear advantages? but even worse, how can you have one with a huge disadvantage (whoever plays Port)?

I don't get it. play the whole finals in Queensland or at least work out proper 'advantages' for clubs who deserve it.

Because there's no covid in the state, like QLD ? Why the * else?

If the perth government didn't make teams hard quarantine for 7 days they'd get two home finals too if they earnt it.

Thats only if its a midday game yea? Night games and even evening games flight times don't look so bad.

It's not the times as such, although that is a big factor to sleep cycles, more that spending 3 hours on a plane isn't ideal day of performance, both physically or to the usual mental routines, and generally the way flying effects the body.

Its not ideal, but nothing in 2020 has been so just have to wear it. You take what you can get though in this game.

i know,we play every game in QLD its so unfair for everybody else

I would have thought it was pretty obviously a reference to previous seasons, getting games at the MCG against the cats despite being the away team, not leaving your home ground in 2017, getting to play an interstate team that finished top, etc.

For once in 100 years the vicco teams are getting a dose of what the interstate clubs deal with every year.

This is the best summation on the whole thread. Well done.

You've gotta ******* love the great leaps of illogic produced here.

I would assume it's just a coping mechanism as their team's not looking at finals this year or possibly the next few, I'd also be looking to distract myself in the same way

The way the first round of the finals are shaping up, it really isn't any different to a normal year any rate. Port and Brisbane will get home ground advantage finishing first and second.

West Coast will finish 5th and get home ground advantage like they would normally.

6 and 7 will be between 2 Victorian teams, and we are told ad nauseum by the Vics that there is no home ground advantage when playing a fellow Victorian team, it is effectively neutral, so again, no different to a normal year.

The first week of the finals and potentially the 3rd week of the finals will be no different to any other year.

Are you forced to fly in fly out?

Meth. Not even once.

The idea that Port and Brisbane should lose the right to host fairly won home finals because Victorians don’t know how to wash their hands is peak VFL mindset.

Its not interstate. It's at home and we earnt it.

But the GF will be (again). Regardless of who deserves it.
