I love the Great Australian Game.
I think all the players are champions, although some are better than others ( my dear old dad use to say the same thing about beer:D)
I love the community history that each club represents, no matter what league it plays in.

However, living in Tassie I am still concerned about the state of regional football, all over the country, but especially here. Their is very little trickle down to club level from the top that I can see.
We want to be in the National league
We shouldnt have to be just a financial tit for two rentaclubs, that is a disgrace.:(

Take that as you wish, one smiley face & one frown. A one all draw in fact. Thats my reality.

1. That the game is still 'tough' without being thuggish (which some people seem to want). If you want evidence of the game being tough, look at the Lewis-Harbrow, Selwood-Ray, Selwood-Whitecross, Adams-Waters, Brown-McPharlin and the Brown-a pack of players incidents. All the first named players took a big hit while chasing/going for the ball, and some got back up, and none of the latter got suspended (I'm pretty sure). Some things are a bit over the top in terms of free kicks/suspensions, but there is no need to return to the 'good old days'

The game needs its villains. The likes of Ballantyne, Milne, King are poor man's outlaws.

Because Carlton are actually good. Everyone is depressed because of it and negativity is brewing throughout the site. This will be a dark year for footy if Carlton get up.

HAD start of year: positive about everything that looks promising
HAD end of year: negative about everything that even slightly under-delivered.
Rinse and repeat.

Just like Mike Sheahan.

HAD after Geelong beats Hawthorn for the 8th time in a row - strangely absent/silent !

on topic, positive stuff :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. One positive thing about the game.
keeps the cricketers fit during the winter months ..

2. One positive thing about a team you don't support.
Sydney are like Geelong's sister team; never tank/bottom out, lot of pride

3. One positive thing about a player from another club.
Fyfe; probably the only oppo player in the league who I genuinely like

Good thread! BF can be a real snoozfest at times with all the crap posted on it.

1a. The hands in the back rule, whilst initially controversial, has improved the game out of sight. So many classic spekkies in the last couple of years.

1b. I'm thrilled with the inclusion of GC and GWS. Our game is growing and spreading out across the country and I'm behind the expansion 100%.

2. Geelong, barring a spate of injuries, will win their 4th flag in 6 years this year and be rightfully classed as one of the greatest teams ever.

3. Pendlebury is a freak and will soon be the number 1 player in the game. Just absolutely love watching him play (though hopes he has a quiet one tonight!).
