Why are we more inept at home than away?

Our home record this season contains some atrocious losses where the opposition was capable of running over us for a lengthy period
  • Hawthorn Round 1 - they scored 6 goals to 2 in the second half after being close at half time
  • Eagles Round 10 - 'honourable loss' but letting them score 10 goals to 3 in the second half is getting run over
  • Port - 9 goals to 1 in the second half
  • Essendon - 10 goals to 3 in the second half
  • Collingwood - 12 goals to 4 in the second half
Our away record against top 4 sides is a bit more respectable in some ways:
  • Competed with Geelong at Kardinia. We were up at half time and right in it in the third quarter before they won the fourth easily
  • Competed with West Coast at Optus, losing by 10 points in the end
  • Competed with Brisbane at the Gabba, losing by 1 point
Have we actually built a gameplan that doesn't suit the Adelaide Oval dimensions? You'd expect, from performances like last night, that top 4 sides should be happily demolishing us at home but that's not how it's played out.

I think we're just too anxious to play on our home ground, particularly when we're expected to win and one mistake can easily lead to players doubting themselves. Killed the season beyond doubt.

The lack of collective confidence within the group is exposed more at home games - the noise of the crowd, the media build up, etc

Your reading too much into it. Poor clubs lose at home and away. Clubs know we are a soft touch and specifically fire themselves up against us at home. No team fears playing us(maybe gc). They pretty much all know you get physical against us and we wilt. Coaches have a lot to answer for. Pyke's gameplan is a ******* disaster.
