Why can't people at Norff act like civilised people

Carey, Archer, Pike, Abraham probably others all before the courts because they can't go out in public without assaulting people, even sexually.

What is wrong with them down there that they cannot act in a civilised manner.

I think that you, Don, raise some very valid points that we should all be alarmed about!

While a degree of aggression on the field can be tolerated, the fact that so many players are involved in off-field 'incidents' is of great concern!

And it is alarming to think that so many of these players come from the one club--fights, incidents in night-clubs, the list just goes on and on and on. Indeed, it makes one think and want to ask: what is going on down at that club!?! Do they need professional help down there or something?

At least the bulldogs have acknowledged they can go a bit over the top and introduced behavioural counselling. What do norff propose to do?!? Why don't their fans object to this behaviour? This team is representing them, after all. Why is this tolerated. Players involved in such incidents should be sacked!

I agree with you Debra they are an undisciplined football club. Interesting that Richmond have improved since they disciplined some players.

It would be beyond them to discipline their Captain, but maybe if they had sacked pike or Archer earlier they would not have tainted the whole competition.

It is precisely their Captain that should be disciplined if he is involved in acts that bring not only their club, but also the whole game into disrepute. He should set the example for the others if he is Captain. Isn't that what a Captain is supposed to do--lead by example? What sort of role model are any of these players setting for the little kiddies.

It is a disgrace!

I should clarify my position Debra. It is too much to expect of the spineless that they would have the foresight to discipline their Captain.

I agree with you though that if they had then, the embaressment that they have afforded the competition would have been avoided, and these unfortunate incidents would have been avoided.

Unfortunately as I said they are spineless and would not take the hard decisions. Full marks to Richmond and Danny Frawley for the stand they have taken.

I don't have an actual vendetta against Norff. it is just that they are consistently useless.

sexual assault and violence are very serious issues in football, christo. you should think about whether it was you or your girlfriend who was involved in one of these unsavoury situations, what would your attitude be then.

don--I am glad to read that you are not proposing a different set of standards for superstars and one for the rest of the league's players. that would be simply unacceptable.

I am a tigers supporter. I fully agree with the clubs decision to discipline its players. It sends a clear message to everyone. what is the message that other clubs are sending to their supporters. perhaps that is why some clubs are struggling to attract the kiddies to their clubs.

This next example of their lack of discipline should incur a sanction from the AFL as the club itself has been unable to act.

What Carey thing? Are you referring to the assault conviction 5 years ago? That was hardly swept under the carpet, front page news in the Herald-Sun. He did get a 12 month good behaviour bond of course-a slap over the wrist in legal terms.

Yes but WHAT DID THE CLUB DO. They had a guy convicted of this charge. AND THEY LET HIM REMAIN CLUB CAPTAIN.

And now look what we have a club whose players are constantly in trouble with the law because of the standard their captain has set, it is a disgrace.

Groucho - I think you might find it is referring to the incidents reported early last year from a pub/nightclub situation where Carey was accused of 2 or more counts Sexual Assault. And then there was that "un-named" club after the Grand Final last year in a similar situation. You put Hormones, HUGE Egos and Too Much MONEY all together - you will always get problems.

I don't have a particular problem with Norff or the Doggies or even the club formally known as Collingwood playing games in Sydney.

What I object to is Norff's ongoing lack of professionalism, they are an anachronism in the national comp and behave accordingly.

With them everything is a pattern, the same poor performance in just about every department. I am just highlighting that they should lift their game or be severely sanctioned.

If THEY HAD done something about the Carey thing years ago all this ongoing embaressment for all the other clubs would not have happened.

Geez Don, I wish my club would copy North's 'poor performance in every department'. Maybe then they might win back to back premierships and appear in the finals 6-7 years in a row. Perhaps the Swans should do the same.

Um, right. So it's all Wayne Carey's fault. Life was perfect pre-Carey, it's now the end of civilization AS WE KNOW IT, post-Carey. He has made a mistake, he has paid the price. But I wonder if he'd ever have time to play football if he took every girl that has pinched his bum in a night club to court for harassment.

As for setting a bad example to the kiddies, I'd recommend that you go and see a North game and wait until he leaves. Then stay around and watch him sign an autograph for every kid that wants one. Or go to a North training session and see him do the same. Or maybe even go to a hospital ward at a children's hospital and see the kids faces light up when he enters the room and chats to them. The man may be no rocket scientist nor a saint, but hell, you cannot doubt his enthusiasm and professionalism towards the fans that look up to him.

There is one other footballer who I admire for his attitude. It's Derek Kickett. A friend of mine has a son, and his son has never been able to walk properly. He must be assisted at all times. They took him to a Swans function (the father is a Swans fan, the boy a mad Crows fan....he even apologised to me when his team beat mine in '98, but heck, I was happy for the kid) and the boy got the autographs of all the players. AS they were leaving, Kickett, from the *other side of the room*, noticed that they were leaving, and yelled out to them, "Hey, GOODBYE <kid's name>....and good luck with learning how to walk". The boy's father told me later that you couldn't wipe the smile off his son's face.

These sorts of things are equally valid in assessing a footballer's character as the bad things that they've done. I can name for you a very high profile footballer with a very most media friendly image who was one surly with the kids who looked up to him. The kids were devastated, but he's since made amends. Do we damn him for that one incident?

In other threads North are a bunch of insignificant,non-supported no-counts but according to this thread they're causing the end of (Football) Civilisation as we know it!! Quite an achievement!!!

Don't forget there are Lions, Eagles and Carlton players under investigation for rape, maybe you can direct your immature vitriol at them- particularly since you like being judge and jury and hear no evidence!
