I reckon he has been one of our biggest loss because we got nothing for him in return.

Yet another ex-roo to do better after escaping Pagans grasp, and to think he probably got the axe because of the trouble with Pagans son.

pagan can be quite a w@nker sometimes

If he stayed another year at North Pikey wouldn't have been in footy anymore. He wasn't prepared to follow the same rules as everyone else in the side, and the time was right for both of us to part ways. Good luck to him at Brisbane, it is great to see him kick on, but his time was up at North.

Remember Pagan was the one that gave him a shot when everyone else gave up on the bloke, and it helped us to a flag, Pagans second as a coach.

I hope this is just off season venting against Denis, because we are getting dangerously close to the same attitude we laugh at Geelong supporters about.

I agree he served us well - he was terrific for a few years - but his old habits came back to haunt him.

Why we got rid of Pike (some of) :

a) picked up the phone on the bench and told dennis to put stevo on instead of Ryan Pagan

b) turned up to a club function for kids, straight from a night out, at the melbourne zoo ****ed to the eyes balls.

c) got involved in an incident in a SA nightclub on state of origin carnival - I never heard the out come of the court case.

and I am sure ther was more - they couldnt control him.

I still to this day can not believe this, some of the storys that went around about it were an absoloute joke.

It was alleged he turned up drunk, had an argument with Greg Miller and was told to go home or else.

Bull****

I was standing next to Pike as he walked in, he looked rough (hadn't had a shave and looked tired) He was clearly not drunk, he walked up to Greg Miller and they had a laugh and spoke about where he went out the night before and Miller actually thanked him for making it down there considering he had been out the night before. Pikey then stood and signed autographs for about 5-10 minutes and Miller came up put his arm around him and told him he could go home. What disgraceful behaviour

Is this true about Pagans son and Pikey?? I admit i didn't hear about this. I only heard rumours about the turning up at a family function lookin absolutely f*cked, and the incident at the SA night club. Speaking of incidents at nightclubs, it seems like Embley of the Eagles was involved in an 'altercation' at Club Bay View, the same place where Cousins and Kerr allegedly had an altercation.

I know a bloke that worked at North and he reliably tells me that Pikey placed one of the coaches in a headlock on their mad Monday drink after the 2000 season. This, on top of his altercation with another senior staffer at the zoo do means he had to go. Yeah we lost a player without recompense but you can't do this type of thing, I'm afraid.
Sinker_9 what you say may have been the case initially but there has been no denial that he had some kind of run-in with a staffer that day. I'm sure Denis wouldn't have dropped him the following week if what you say is the total truth.

Yes I know that but people said he arrived drunk, not true, he was hung over.

And people also said when he arrived he got abused by Miller, absoloutely wrong. Perhaps it did happen later though.

You have to love Pike's spirit.

Kicked out of Melbourne for being a trouble maker and drunk. Goes to Fitroy and wins the best and fairest. Gets dumped by Brisbane when they merge with Fitzroy. Picked up by North, plays in 2 GF's, wins 1 medal. Gets dumped by North for his disruptive behaviour. Goes to Brisbane and now has 2 more medals.
One thing you can't discount is the fact he can play good footy!
His partner and child have mellowed him the last couple of years.

hilly:

I agree, but the problem is he is their to take the orders. He could have waited till after the game or did something more constructive.

I dont understand how they could justify playing Ryan Pagan anyway - he was way off the pace.

And then Dennis arrives @ carlton, turns around and says "nobody has told me I can have what I want within reason".

So what did north give him that he didnt want ???

I personally think Pikeys a SUPERSTAR !!

You need these characters/cult figures around the club. Hes a tough genuine footballer, not a **** weak athlete or a basketball reject.

Did anyone see Sunday nights news where Pike grabbed the mic and said: Sorry I'm late.... as he was looking into the camera ?

Stuck it up Pigeon.... woooo hooooo !!!!!!!

Who were the other ex-roos to "escape Pagan's grasp"?
Kent Kingsley? (was not disappointed to see him go)
Cameron Mooney? (was a calculated trade to get a highly regarded player)
Peter Bell? (Pagan had nothing to do with him leaving)

I know their is still disappointment at pagan leaving, and i can understand anger, but i am getting a bit sick of people suddenly deciding that, retrospectively, pagan was no good. The players gave their everything for him. This obviously has a bit to do with the culture, but the culture didn't help schimma very much, did it?

How does pagan's leaving suddenly make his tactics, man management, dedication and passion for the Roos mean nothing?
We all preach about the importance of loyalty, well here is another word: RESPECT.
How about showing a little respect for a man who gave a fu(king heap to the North Melbourne Football Club. A man who helped deliver many of us two of the best days of our lives.

...it is not like he went and fu(ked his best mates wife or anything, he just changed jobs after thirty years service.

Being drunk is one thing, but being stoned out of your brains...

In other words, I can assure you Pike's delisting had alot more to it than just the incidents mentioned in this thread people.

I just curse because we got nothing for him. Disgraceful that you could delist a premiership player and former best and fairest who still has a heap to offer (like participation 2 more fricken premierships!!) just to take a stand on whats acceptable and whats not at a footy club.

I was always a Pike fan, but can understand that certain behaviours or habits cant be tolerated at a place like a footy club, where you have a heap of young blokes who dont need too much encouragement to slip off the rails. But we still could have been smarter about it. I'm sure Brisbane still laugh at us.

Believe he is still misbehaving, he supposedly dropped the four letter word at the family day on Sunday and didnt impress anyone, and I believe if asked, any of the Lions players would tell you that the person who celebrated the most after the win, was yes, Pikey. But then again he does have one more premiership medal than the rest of them.

Does the name Schwass ring a bell ?

Mooney
Kingsly
Welsh
B Sholl
Freeborn
McKernan
M Stevens
Romero
Pike
Schwass

All improved and/or turned their careers around after leaving Pagan.

There is no dispute Pagan was a great coach for us but in the end its players who win you premierships.

As for respect, Pagan lost all the respect he earned over the years after trying to poach players and staff from the NMFC.

F*cking Unethical!

How would you feel if Harvey was out of contract and Denis had a word with him aswell?

Improvement here is nothing more than I would expect from young players. Welsh is the only one I would really like back at the club.

I'll pay this one.

Freeborn
McKernan
Playing at the same level as they did at the Roos IMO.

I'll pay this one as well, not sure how he managed to turn his game around from a sheepdog to a dirty scragger.

Pike
Schwass

Both played very good footy for North, and both played very good footy for their next teams. I wouldn't think their games improved a heap once out of Pagans grasp.

A premiership side needs both (except Brisbane maybe)

If he's not doing that he is not doing his job as well as he can, that's unethical. I hope Laidley goes right through Collingwood to try and give us any advantage we can get.

I would hope he would say no, but if Harvey was out of contract and Denis didn't speak to him he would be the only coach in the league not to.

Seemed fairly appropriate in the context - Eddie's Army moaning on.

He's had an absolute blinder of a season - covered for Brown at CHF, Leppa at CHB, Lappin in the midfield, allowed Headland to run around unmarked - and Brownlow votes to prove it.

The question is - who will play him in the film of his life story ?

Also, there is an uncany resemblance with Freddy Mercury. We are the Champions indeed.
