Why do Game Day threads get locked?

Wondering why Game Day threads always get locked shortly after a game. My point of view is from watching a game live at the stadium, not on TV.
Locking these threads means that people have to create a new thread for what is essentially a continuation of a thread that already exists. This is an even larger issue with night time games because most of us are tired and go to bed as soon as we get home and when we wake up, the threads are locked and we can't reply.

Your board mods should link you to an autopsy or review thread, and sticky that link in the game day thread. They should copy over the last few posts so those lines of discussion are not cut short.

However it's not always that easy if they are all at the game or drinking away their sorrows after a match.
