This is just a guess here, but i would say that both Geelong and North Melbourne/Kangaroos have done the most player transfer/trades between two clubs for the last ten years at least. I think it started when the Roos cleared Mcgrath to Geelong. Then we got Pickering, Steele and Tudor, then the Brad Sholl/Robert Scott deal (which i maintain Geelong got the best out of that one), then several others including the massive Leigh Colbert deal last year, and now this year, the Kent Kinglsey/draft pick trade (heck we even picked up an ex-Kangaroo assistant as coach) - I'm getting tired of Norff clearing all their rejects to Geelong (Yes I am talking about Cameron 'useless' Mooney)

Oi! Leave Cameron Mooney alone. He's a PREMIERSHIP PLAYER you know...unlike Garry Hocking, Gary Ablett, Ken Hinkley, Mark Bairstow, Barry Stoneham, Tim McGrath etc. etc. Besides, his pre-season was interupted by injury and he never got fully fit. He'll do well for you guys when he does get fit.

As for all the North-Geelong deals, I'm not too sure what triggered the Sholl/McGrath/Pickering etc. deals, but your current coach was Denis Pagan's right hand man and knows a bit about our players.

Freo and WCE seem to be doing a lot of trading with each other these days.Maybe its because Micks gone.

Geelong and North coaching staff get along, thats why they can work out these deals without much trouble.
WCE didn't do much trading when MICK was coach because no one wanted to deal with him.Pagan is a reasonable coach.

G4E -Dont forget about Ross Smith. He went from North as player to Geelong as VFL coach [i think he coached North Ballarat in between] and then went back to North as an Assistant coach. Then theres Blight -North to Geelong

I noticed it's mainly North players going to Geelong, and not the other way around. This is because Geelong are trying to eradicate the loser mentality that has been eating away at their club and city since their last premiership in 1493. Unfortunately this isn't working, because the ex-shinboners are catching the loser disease the moment the enter Geelong's City limits.
If Geelong ever want to taste success again I suggest that move to Hobart.

You can only name 5.
Since 1990, Geelong have picked up the following rejects:
Tim McGrath, Leigh Tudor, Brad Sholl, Darren Steele, Liam Pickering, Cameron Mooney and Kent Kingsley.
How many of these guys have won premierships since they moved over.

NONE

Whereas Robert Scott has won two (including a preseason) and Brady Anderson has one a preseason.

I know what you were on about. I was just saying that the players we have received from Geelong have been fewer, but of higher quality.

Also, it appears to me that ex-Cats move to North to win Premiership, not to lose in Grand Finals.

I agree that the presaeson is crap, but at the end of day, it's silverware for the trophy room, and we've added a great deal of silver and gold to our room in the last 25-30 years.

How successful has Geelong been in that time??

Grand Finals? Night Grand Finals? Who cares? When the final siren sounds, Geelong will be the team with the lower score!

Yeah but at least Geelong will have 15,000 more members at their games. HEHE. I still remember the 94 preliminary final. Wasn't that brillant. YABBBBBBBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTT. The look on Micky Martin's face after the siren sounded was priceless. Cameron Mooney is still a useless piece of timber at the moment, but he could improve hopefully one day.

I too remember the look on Micky's face after 1994, but I also remember the look on his face after 1996 and 1999. What a handsome looking fella he is when he smiles.... Well my girlfriend thinks so anyway.

Yeah and I still remember the week after LOSERBOY....

Don't tell me you have to put up with g4e's crap in here as well, haven't you got a padded room with a lock you can put him in when he invades your club rooms. I hope you are managing to keep him away from the bar fridge, a drunk g4e would be too much to take.
Cheers

DEVO, you are full of crap, the fact is that Geelong despite not winning any silverware of late has got a much better deal out of North players than vice versa.

Pickering became a club vice-captain and a top line midfielder who got more than 25 possies a week.

McGrath, while past his best now, has for the last 9 years been one of only 2 players in the league who can say they have held up against Carey, the other being Jakovich.

Tudor was injury prone, and couldn't kick yet still average 35 goals a year in his time at Geelong, and will always be remembered for THAT kick to Gazza in 94.

Steel wasn't around long enough, but was more than handy at his time with the club.

Cameron Mooney, (sorry G4E) will be a star, North didn't want to lose him but had to to get Colbert. Denis Pagan rates him a better centre half forward than Carey at the same age. Once he gets a full preseason behind him will be the number 1 go-to man in the team.

I'm still not sure about Kingsley, but Bomber was the assistant coach to Pagan, so I'm sure he knows a player when he sees it.

North on the other hand have got, Robert Scott, yes he played in a Premiership, but was a far better footballer when at Geelong teaming up with Bews, Couch, Bairstow and Hocking in the midfield. He was never allowed to play his best at North because of Stevens and co.

Colbert, is a dud, but remains the only player to go up in value AFTER a knee reco. The fact is he basically stole money from Geelong in 1999. He was paid 250,000 for doing NOTHING, then left.

Remember, Geelong has far more supporters than North, More Members and most importantly isn't trying to allienate its supporters by moving interstate, we move 70kms for 4 games a year, big deal. Its a lot less than 1000kms for a few games each year.

Geelong haven't has the success of North, but are still surviving, and increase their membership by 21precent in 2000, more than any other club.

North have had all the success, yet can't get any supporters, they are the one's in trouble in the future, not Geelong

geelong4eva, I wouldn't say my girlfriend is ugly, more likely the guys she likes are ugly, Mickey Martyn, Grizzly Adams and myself. I'd say she has a sick sence of humour, or really bad taste in men.

gocatsgo, North appear to be bucking the trend when is comes to supporters following their team. At a time of great success for the club, North have increased their membership from around 2000 in 1992 to around 25,000 in 2000, and I dare say no team has had that kind of increase in the last decade.
I've noticed in AFL (and NRL), that supporters take their clubs for granted. They beleive their club will always be there, and it's only when their club is in servere debt, is being kicked out of the league, or is forced to merge to survive, that the supporters rally around their team, and I think the Geelong supporters could see that happening to them. The Cats were in around $7m debt only a couple of years ago and maybe the supporters could sense Geelong going the same way as Fitzroy. It happened with Footscray in 1989, and Hawthorn 1996, and it's happening with South Sydney in the NRL right now. Souths were struggling to get 5,000 people to their games, but when it looked like the NRL were going to kick them out (which they did), around 50,000 people turned up for a rally to show their support.

Maybe North supporters are like their Geelong conterparts and can see tough times ahead.
Maybe like Geelong supporters we are trying to stop our club from reaching the depths that Footscray and Fitzroy reached in the late eighties and Hawthorn reached in 1996.

Sandie, if i had the misfortune to be your son, i would probably get out a rope and hang myself. You make some of the 'workers' down at the Freo docks, Fitzroy st or Kings Cross look classy. You really are a dog faced parasite. And Rooboy your arrogance is unbelieveable. I DON'T hate North, in fact along with Carlton and Brissy, they are the only teams in the AFL i don't despise. I was just taking DEVO to task. By the Way we still have 2 more flags in our cupboard then north (and about 15 less wooden spoons)
