Why do most Richmond supporters rate Cotch so much more than Deledio?

Never understood. Everyone says Lids doesn't deserve his b&f awards, he is too inconsistent, doesn't do enough etc.

but in those games where people say those things about him, i notice cotch gets praised for doing much less than deledio did.

i like both these kids, both gun players but seriously,

what gives?

For what it's worth, Deledio's precision kicking was a highlight when the Tiges were building our lead during the game. Easily our best player at this stage of the rebuild in my opinion.

Cotchin has leadership written all over him. Was watching on tv in the pub and you could see he was the one doing all the talking as they took the field. Tuck and Martin were outstanding but Cotchin set the tone early.

Lots to like about the direction were heading.

I see where your coming from but one of the reasons i think people like cotch a bit better is that lids can frustrate you as he has this ability but wasted it in way.But ever since lids has moved down to half back he has taken the game on more.

And to be honest i dont no who i like more this includes martin.

Because of the fact we are only now starting to see Cotch reach 100% injury free status, and look what he did today. We can all see from the quarter bursts he has done at times since his debut what a player he is likely to become. Some of us, including me, were starting to worry whether it would happen, but the last few weeks he has started to to have a real impact. I agree until now it has all been hype and hope stuff and Lids has been much better, but..... I hope him and Martin motivate Lids to lift to the next level and they will be fighting for BOGs like the Cats' elite.

people get frustrated with deledio because we don't win games too I've also noticed. many people also make the point that deledio isn't a strong leader which I don't completely disagree with. But it isn't his strong point, not all players are natural leaders, not all players have to be or want to be, doesn't make him less of star player.

last year people praised cotchin in games where he played ok. yet deledio would play very well and get little or no praise at all and everyone would express their disappointment saying he is 'wasting talent' or 'not living up to his hype'

i dunno, just a few things i've noticed because in my opinion, as soon as richo injured himself last season, lids took over the reigns as our best players.

and yeah martin is a star, hope he keeps improving because his form so far this season has put me into shock, simply outstanding

What do we expect Lids to do to reach the next level?

In our current side he is our best player by far, for him to look like a better player I reckon he needs to be surrounded by better and more skillful and experienced players. Cotchin hasn't done anything outstanding to be regarded a better or more promising player than deledio in my opinion.

They'll both be champions of the club, no denying!

The class of Cotch and the precision and swagger of Deledio.

i think ppl get frustrated with lids because he should be elite, he has had many many elite games just inconstant

i think the reason ppl rate cotchin more is he has played alot less games probably half of what lids had done and has had no pre-season

if you look at lids you would say hes probably only missed 5 games max in 5 years?

lids rite now is our best players but cotchin mite steal that soon

rite now lids would be winning the race to get his 3rd B&F in a row

Lids through his career is a slow starter, slow starter in games. Personally i have never seen him as a damaging game breaker, BUT this year he seems to be changing that.

Cotch, for all his pre-season interruptions has shown us in the last 4 weeks just how good he is and how he will be absolute elite in a year or so. Lids is classy, but Cotch is gilt edged.

Deledio is a jet. Silky smooth and worthy of No 1 pick alone on his brilliance. Won't ever win a Brownlow, but neither will Montagna or Hayes.
Cotchin is everything I hoped he'd be and then some.

I think that It's because Cotchin has shown that he is going to be an elite inside midfielder. He can get it in a pack and get out of traffic, and do it consistently with amazing composure for someone his age.

Lids has not been able to do this.

Having said that, the quality of Deledio's play in his current role has me really excited, and I think he deserves to be in the top couple if the B&F at this stage.

Because not much has been seen of Cotch yet, so people actually believe he will win games off his own boot some day. Lids has been around for 100 games yet we are still losing, so they assume he must be no good.

In fact, he is the best kick and one of the best decision makers at our club. As well as being as durable as hell.

Hopefully Cotch and others follow in his footsteps in many regards. :thumbsu:

Last week Lids first half was mainly on Jetta. Lids rebound from the half back line was fantastic and he was praised here, but at the same time Jetta had his best half for the year. Second half Farmer spent a fair bit of time on Jetta, kept him quieter, done his job, didnt pick up the possies lids would have, but heaps here wanted him dropped?

IMO Deledio has been in our best 3 players most games for the last 3 years. What people don't realise is that when we win games and he is still in our best 3, this translates to Brownlow votes, AA recognition ect. It's funny because if we were a winning side atm he would be talked up for AA but because we are losing he doesn't get a chnace and it means the majority of the footballing world criticises him.

IMO his first b&f is underrated considering he beat Richo who almost won the Brownlow. The second one is not rated because he was going to be dropped and then he won the b&f.

I still think Deledio could be our freak and best player ahead of Cotchin because of his pace, marking ability and his awesome kicking....

I think Cotch recieves greater praise because even with a tag he can influence a game , whereas the one huge doubt on Lids is his ability to have an influence if tagged !
When Lids was being tagged last year we all expected him to have the same impact. that might happen once every 4 games, Because he had no one to help him out in there. But he didnt do terrible he actually played good and was probably better than most others on our team. Its just BF's expectations.

With the hype that came with getting Cousins everyone expected this to free up Lids - for him to be that game breaking mid with the big strides and the precision passes - but it just didn't happen.

Struggles to cope with a tag, and fades in and out of games - and because he's an outside runner, people perceive it to be a lack of hunger and effort.

Cotch is always there throwing his body in, has a step Ronaldo would be envious of, and sees the best option - always.

Deledio is class - and Foley and Cotch allow him to be our third tall floating back into contests and delievering the ball with precision off the HB line.

Cotchin will be the guy who gets 7+ clearances and we'll still be talking about as being the silkiest on the ground.

The thing is they will all compliment each other. Lids brings excellent attributes we all no. But we have three elite mids. Martin brings brut force into the midfield... With Foley we have four to build a great midfield.

We need 1 more. Cuz if fit next year makes 5.

Our first pick in ND should be a mid to replace cuz.

We need another outside mid as Martin, Cotch and Foley can play outside but are more inside than out.

Bennell from WA is perfect. Kicked 6 of WA's 8 in the wet yesterday. Hence why we still need pick 4.
