Why do people hate Bruce?

A lot of people I have talked to all hate Bruce Mc. I don't know why. I reckon he is easily Ch 7's best tv commentator. He is very good at picking up the tempo when the action is fast and furious. I haven't seen him commentate too many sh^t games. He's very consistent and not influenced by bias.

..... Well maybe he's slightly influenced by his belovered Sydney. But only marginally.
The only time I have had to switch off because of him was when Plugger reached his milestone goal. Now that was a load of drivel I admit....

Commentators I simply can't stand include Dermie, Sandy, a Hudson. Also hate Sydney players-Plugger and Roos, My god they are so bias towards Sydney that its embarassing.
I know they want to promote the game there but don't sugar coat everything towards Sydney- please.

I cringe with embarrasment everytime Roos or Lockett open their mouths.

The shameless Sydney-centric bias is absolutely unbelievable at times - why do they do that ?

Is it because they think the so-called 'fickle' Sydney supporter / viewer base can't handle balanced, informed commentary that criticises the Swans when necessary ?

If that is the case then it proves that whoever runs Channel 7 in Sydney has no understanding whatsoever about Australian Football.

Its just yet another case of DUMB and DUMBER from the most idiotic television network in the entire english-speaking world.

Now I've had a chance to slag off Channel Seven (again) I feel much better....

Bruce is actually an Adelaide supporter!

He has set shifts, Friday night and Sunday afternoon at the SCG, because he hosts Sportsworld on Sunday from Sydney.

My own personal view... I can't stand the little weed.

I'm sick of his orgasmic delights when Wayne goes near the ball, I'm sick of the way he barracks for Sydney every week because he doesn't want to get belted by Plugger and Roosy (?), I'm sick of the way he goes on and on about how good North are and that 'you would back them against anyone' and never gives the opposition a chance.

And I am certainly sick of the way he goes on with,'oh, he's such a speeeeeecial player.'

One Night I heard him commentating in Perth and Chris grant had a shot 50 metres out from goal after the siren, he missed it and Bruce quipped, 'Not being harsh on Chris Grant, but those are the goals Wayne Carey kicks, he's just not quite as good as him, is he?'

Another time was when Geelong played North last year in round 1, He made the comment, 'this has been the game of the year' IT WAS ROUND ONE.

Bruce rules hes far and away the best commentator in the AFL a distant second would be Commetti. He builds suspence better than anyone and calls most games pretty fairly the only thing that gets on my nerves is the carey crap if he just wasnt so biased towards carey hed be the ultimate commentator.

Just to add to the list of 'orgasmic delight' favourites of Brucie is PAUL KELLY. Bruce would have been jumping out of his neatly ironed 'slacks' at seeing P. Kelly return to football. 'OOOOOOoooooohhhhh, Keeeelllllllyyyyyyy, Caaaaaaaaaptain Corrrrrrrrrageuos etc..'

If you think Plugger and Roosy are biased towards Sydney you should hear former Swan David Murphy, who does the special comments for Sydney's games on ABC radio. When he does his summaries he always talks about the Swans first, even if they are getting thrashed. And every loss is always the umpires' fault. Unbelievable!

Bruce an Adelaide supporter?? I think not. I know he comes from Adelaide but he is obviously a Kangaroo suporter, you just have to listen to him.

The worst sporting commentator or comments man I have ever come accross is easly Peter Fitsimons. I know he does not commentate AFL but he is a shocker. For those of you with Foxtel watch The Back Page on Ch 11 and tell me if you dont want to punch his lights out. They had David Hookes on as a special guest the other night and I was sure he was going to hit him at one stage.

Peter Fitzsimons is a Rugby Union man through and through and is pretty typical of the genre.

Rude, arrogant, born to rule, a snob, and at the end of the day pretty bloody stupid really.

Its no wonder I take absolutely no inteest in Rugby Union these days as the quality of the people involved with the game is exemplified by this Fitzsimons w*nker.

For the record, I like watching games commentated by the Sandy Roberts/Gerard Healy combination. Anthony Hudson is a good commentator and Bruce is not bad either. And like most Victorians naturally labelled Dennis Cometti as biased against Victorians. However, his dry sense of humour and in depth commentary has prompted me to put him as one of my favourites.

Dermie doesn't shut up and for a 3 time premiership player Robbo has no idea at times.

Oh no, no, no sainter. Please don't say you like Sandy Roberts. He definitely tops my most-hated list. I believe that guy has a set book of cliches which he reads from no matter what happens - nothing he says is original. It's constant, informal drivel.

This thread has highlighted to me how much commentators are a matter of personal preference. One person's favourite is another person's most despised.

Personally, Dennis Commetti (sp) is far and away my favourite TV commentator, which admittedly is not saying a whole lot. If he is commentating, I actually consider turning off the radio, until I realise Doug Hawkins is doing "special" (i.e. ******ed) comments. I really like Commetti's dry sense of humour.

I enjoy most of the ABC guys and also relate to their sense of humour. In my opinion, Tim Lane is Australia's best football commentator and I've got a lot of time for Clinton Grybas, too.

The 'Sydneyisation' of Tony Lockett is just a bloody disgrace. At times it is difficult to realise that Lockett actually played by far more games and kicked far more goals and set far more records when he played for StK than he ever did for Sydney.

Oh well, I guess Lockett himself does not seem to mind, maybe he thinks of himself as more a Swan than a Saint, but the denial of historical fact must make sainters such as yourself disappointed and angry.

Brucie has a love affair with whichever team is travelling the best.

There was Sydney a few years ago with Plugger and Paul.

Then it was North with Wayne and Winnie.

Now it's Essendon's turn.

In a couple of years when a new challenger arrives it will be them.

Personally, I like Commetti. I don't find him biased. Agree with Daniel on Sandy "oh my hat" Roberts.

As for Plugger, you wouldn't even know he played for StKilda.

You guys really should sit down & listen to Graham Cornes doing special comments at Footy Park Games. HE IS THE WORSE COMMENTATOR BY A MILE.

Hawkins is a waste of space.

Dermie & Dunstall seem to think they are mind readers "he thought if I can just get around this guy" & just crap on about every kick for goal. "he kicked with his instep".

Sandy Roberts is full of cliches "like a road train" but at least his call of a game actually resembles the one you are watching.

I ignor Roos & Plugger. They are just there so Sydney supporters know somebody.

I like Ian Robertson because he doesn't crap on as much as the more recent additions.

The rest are ok usually.

I really miss Peter McKenna (like Uncle Arthur doing the commentory) & Don (punch from behind)Scott.

I don't mind Bruce, but after hearing Andrew Startin's impersonations of him, I keep thinking Bruce is doing an Andrew Startin impersonation. (Andrew is the guy who won the Channel 9 Footy Show competition a few years back imitating Sam Newman.)

No-one has mentioned Drew Morphett, who must be the most hated commentator in Adelaide. Absolutely can't stand him.

Dennis Commetti has a fantastic voice, I don't really notice what he says, just how he says it.

Ok, commentators

My favourite is Dennis Cometti by a mile. Lovely voice, dry humour, virtually unbiased (but does have a soft spot for WCE / Freo) and well informed.

Anthony Hudson is also very good, squeaky shrill voice not withstanding, he knows his footy and displays enthusiasm and good humour without going over the top.

Ian Robertson is not bad, but I get the impression the modern game leaves him a little cold.

Drew Morphett - quite good but his best was years and years ago when he hosted The Winners

Bruce McAvaney - Hate him, hes just so over the top with his overblown rhetoric I find him patronising and mildly offensive.

Sandy Roberts - Beautiful voice but why is he so cliched all the time ?

As for ex footballers commentating - they are all crap, lack professionalism and balance and think they are much better than they really are.

Graham Cornes - a South Australian shocker, always criticising umpires and such a mumbler.

Same goes for Blight - difficult to hear clearly at the best of times.

Doug Hawkins - Grasp of the English language is so poor he shouldn't be engaged in any activity that involves talking. Same goes for Dipper - just a shocker really.

Lockett and Roos are a tag-team joke and are only there to give Sydney viewers something to relate to.

Dunstall and Brereton - know it alls who are just annoying

Healy, Viney, Longmire and Shaw - terrible, just terrible.

Kevin Bartlett - probably the best of the ex-players but what is the phrase I am looking for ?

Interesting that the best commentators are the guys who call the game & the worse are the special comments guys. Bartlett is one of the few ex players who do actually do the play by play commentary.

I read on another thread that russo got the sack because bomber supporters sent e-mails to 7 to get rid of him.

What actually happened?

I would like the same to happen to Cornes.

I mean you go to the game then come home to watch the replay & get stuck with his CRAP commentary. You can't turn the sound down & listen to the radio because it's a replay so you have to put up with him.

I don't know whether it was actually the case or not but Bomber fans started a sustained and intense criticism of Russos performance at their own 'Bomberland' forum (for obvious reasons I've never been there)

After Russo got the chop from Channel 7, these same Bomber people were quick to claim the credit for that.

Whether it was a result of what was going on at Bomberland, I don't know I'm just glad to see the back of Russo...

Go to it Drakey - start a campaign on the Crows forum about getting rid of Cornes and you never know what might happen it could just work - hopefully
