Why do so many new people to the game choose Collingwood?

How does this happen? What is so special about the bogans? It's not like the suburb itself lends itself to be a place one wants to call their own.

Even Sudenese who are new to the game are adopting Collingwood it seems, when you'd think Majak should have that one well and truly wrapped up.

His mother didn't want him to play football when his friends talked him down to the Narre North Foxes two years ago, because she thought it too physical, but she has come around. ''She didn't like it at first,'' he said, ''but now she's a big Collingwood fan.''

Because they're rammed down people's throats with prime time games and media, plus the areas new arrivals generally move into upon arrival are already swarming with their demographic.

Because they suck you in with their Bullshit, especially McGuire, who says to come to Collingwood, while putting the other clubs down.

So many bloody sheep. I remember being in school in the 90's and a lot of kids who knew nothing about Footy said they followed North. Some followed that to high school and became full supporters. Others went to the winning sides (collingwood or *essendon). I see old mates every now and then and they swap teams like they change their underwear. It is annoying when they rock up in Dockers clothing and act like they've been members for 10+ years. Whilst it must be annoying for die hard Man U fans it's good for the club.

We need to start dominating again to be attractive to these bandwagon supports. Hopefully it's for a long enough period that they stick around when the team inevitably drops off.

I suppose they go with the numbers.
Sunday PM fixtures suggest there's more cause and effect between scheduling and intangibles and club numbers than previously suspected.

So Collingwood are big because they're exposed and they're exposed because they're big.

In an age of equalisation, Gilligan and the other Castaways at AFL House should have their bonuses tied to increases in membership, game day attendance and revenue at the 6 least popular clubs. The notion that bigger profits and media rights is good for everyone is fundamentally flawed. The world would not stop spinning if the next media rights contract was LESS than the last.

International team co-operationship as well. Collingwood has been very clever with this. They have some some sort of historical relationship with Glasgow Celtic, way earlier than when Eddie got on board. I knew some blokes out there didn't know too much about footy, but identified with Collingwood.

Most people like being part of a crowd. I expect that's even more the case when you are new somewhere and want to fit in. Why are there more Catholics than Quakers? Why do more people follow Arsenal than Crystal Palace? Why does everyone wear jeans? Why does everyone watch Game of Thrones? It's a bandwagon world.

I'm not sure the other clubs sell up enough that if you follow them you are appreciated more - you are a face, not just a number. (There was a brilliant article years ago about the 99 GF which talked about the players recognising and celebrating with fans in the crowd - and another famous one where Martin Flanagan recounted taking a US visitor to Arden St and his amazement that could walk in and meet Byron Pickett.)

But I also don't think North can do much more with new arrivals than it is doing with The Huddle and associated initiatives.

Same reason people new to the EPL/NFL/NHL/NBA/MBL tend to choose the big teams.

They see they have massive exposure and supporter base so assume they're the overall best team. In some cases this is correct, but it does stifle the growth of other clubs.

Hawthorn and Port are the two bigger bandwagon clubs, can't wait for Hawthorn to decline to see their numbers drop to follow the franchise clubs, arrogant as hell they are.

with so much negativity around about barracking for the smaller clubs like no money no players no supporters no tv exposure and then add possible club relocation all presents as a shithouse proposition for any new fan.
