Just an observation. Next to nobody plays with their socks up any more, Grundy was about the only one I noticed tonight. Will the long sock ever be replaced ? Pardon the pun but the players have voted with their feet.

Going back the to prehistoric days of the late 1800s when the game was in its infancy..long thick wool socks pull up were favoured by many players as they tried to lessen the lower leg damage caused by opposition tripping tactics known then as “ hacking “.

Hacking at the leg was legal for quite a few years.

Later they wore knicker bocker half leg pants with socks pulled up because it looked smart and neat and a shift towards team uniforms that looked the same..club identity etc
Coloured hoops on socks eventually followed.

I kept a player on the bench to the 4th qtr cos he refused to pull up his socks. We lost by 5 points. I stand by my decision.

Pull your damn socks up.

They're are still popular in Japan.

The socks are an identifier. If you pull them up - you're an automatically a good footballer. If you keep them down, you're a soft**** weirdo who may end up a good athlete.

Pretty simple system
