I just want to know why someone barracks for, say, Collingwood or Essendon. Is it because of your parents or another family member, or because of the area you live in, etc.
For instance, my Dad arrived here from Holland when he was 10 and on his first day at school he sat next to a kid wearing a Collingwood beanie - so he barracks for Collingwood.
I barrack for Collingwood because my grandfather played for them (years and years ago)and my whole family supports the pies.
Anyway, I'd be interested in your responses.

I barrack for Hawthorn because i was born and bred that way, if i didnt support hawthorn i probably would have been shot!!
And im not complaining, i luv the boys from glenferrie!

Do a search fo "why do you barrack for" it will save a lot of people repeating themselves. It was started in Nov last year.
Cheers

Footy. It was just a sport.
But now it's also a business.
However, according to the fans it's a religion, where the people rule!

I was never really into footy until late in 1993 when I was forced to watch West Coast Eagles v Geelong at the WACA. I had no interest in footy or any footy club at all then, but I watched the footy and decided to go for Geelong as they were the Victorian team. They played awesomely to defeat the weagles. The following year I got into footy a bit more and watching Gary Ablett. By 1995, I had my first GFC membership and have not looked back. It took only a year - and now, about 8 years on, I'm a passionate, one eyed cat fan, eagerly awainting our next flag.
GO CATS!

I barrack for Geelong because when my father was growing up in WA he used to mow Polly Farmer's lawns - so when we moved to Vic, it had to be Geelong!

all my family are all one eyes pie fans so I was born with black and white blood

Basically family. I think everybody gets told who to s upport when there little. You tend to follow who your dad supports
For me, i follow port because a few of my family members played/were involved with the Port Magpies. My cousin played there, my grandfather was a trainer there, and my great grandma used to board players coming from the country, and also back in the Fos Williams playing days, the players all used to go back to her house after a game for a swim and a steak!!!
So basically if i wanted to support anyone else i would of been removed from the family!!!

i barrack for the roos as a result of dad's influence...his cousin played for the kangas in the mid 60's. interestingly, my great-grandfather from the same side of the family played for Collingwood in their first few years in the VFL/AFL, so perhaps I should have been a Collingwood supporter?
