Why does the Bigfooty forum have so many ads?

I like visiting this forum but seeing all the ads really ruins the user experience for me.

Perhaps the owners of this forum should remove the ads so they can make visiting the Bigfooty forum a far more pleasant user experience.

Every now and then I turn my ad block off to see what the internet looks these days and every page is like a webpages from 1990s geocities. Completely unreadable and I wonder how the non adblock users even use the internet.
