Why exactly are we after Andrejs Everitt?

He is a tall running flanker right? We have Bower, Anderson and Russell as players who can rebound out of defense. Why are we after Everitt so badly and what will he add to the team?

You can never have enough quality on the list.

Everitt may be able to fill out to be a KP forward or back but he may not.

He's a talent and perhaps isn't given the opportunities a player of his talent deserves.

If a player WANTS to come to play for Carlton, we would be silly to not at least look into it.

More importantly, why are we after Matthew Spangher?

At least Everitt was a high pick and has just been unable to break into what has been a top 4 side for the past few years. At least Everitt has shown signs of being a decent footballer.

Spangher on the other hand is a hack who struggles to get a game for a bottom 4 side.

Anderson and Bower ain't all that tall..and who said what position the club has in mind for Everitt ?

I leave these kinds of calls to the club ..because they actually know what they are doing .

I watch most Eagle games living in perth and Spangher is far from a hack he is like bower used to be.

He isn't a flaker he will play key position.

To put it in perspective his hight and weight is almost identical to Jammo while being 3 yrs younger and still growing.

That makes him 1cm taller than Scarlett and only 2cm shorter than Lake and from what i've seen he'd be at least as quick if not quicker than both.

I'm just curious because I've heard so many different stories about him. Is he a flanker, a KPD, a winger, what? I haven't seen him play at all.

Bulldogs call everyone a "tall running flanker" because their whole team is made of "tall running flankers". The guy is 193cm with a good leap, and has definite KP potential in a few years time. He does have talent as well. Anyone with talent is welcome at the Blues. Talent wins flags. :)

He goes alright guys, showed enough talent that he could be a decent player in the next few years, but he is a flanker type, whilst he is tall, he is skinny, and could not hold down a KP. WOuld be a good 3rd tall for the backline for any team. If you get him, i think he will do well for you, pls just don't shaft us in the process ;)

Why get rid of the guy? Doesn't make sense. :)

We don't want to, but the club is exploring its options. Fair enough. The concern on Everitt is that he's never going to a KPP. He simply doesn't play like one - at all. His strengths are his run & carry, his weakness is his body on body. We've tried him as a third defender and he doesn't offer a whole lot in this role.

When he's played well, it's been as a winger. His game v Collingwood as an acting ruck was really impressive, but obviously he cannot play the role every week. This is the problem; there's no set position for Everitt.

In theory a 193cm running player on the wing sounds great. Reality is, his opponent is still going to be more mobile and agile. He's competing against KPD's at our club and he's well behind. He's also competing for a spot in the midfield - again, behind in the pecking order.

There's a lot of potential and he's at the prime age. Perhaps a HFF and pushing into the midfield will be his best bet, but there's no certainty with Andrejs.

Based on 'potential' and age, I'd rather keep Everitt but I can understand the club fielding offers for him.

He's a running midfielder/winger/roving flanker type with the ability to play short or tall up forward, down back or on the bench.

We already have Thornton and Bower more than capable of playing the third tall role, and both can body on body if required.

I'm with the OP. Happy to look at him, but wouldn't want to pay much as I think unless he re-invents himself as a forward i can't see him playing in our defence......and he certainly won't push into our midfield/ruck division.

I just can't see him playing in anything other than Red next year if we got him.

He can do all that, no worries. Good value as a utility.

The problem is he can't do it consistently. Will probably struggle to hold down any position permanently, unfortunately.

Reminds me of Wayde Skipper in that way. Make of that what you will!

Reckon pick 27 is reasonable. Wouldn't be paying anything more than that. He does have that little bit of X-factor which suits the way the Blues play more than a dour, disciplined team like the Saints. Anyone that is lucky enough to get a spot on the Blues list has to have the talent-prerequisite. He ticks that box. We are building a team to bring home multiple flags not "acceptable" top-8 finishes. Suspect he'd thrive at a Club like the Blues, where daring, attacking high risk high payoff footy is encouraged. :)

I think i need to work on my sarcasm!

He's worth a look for us, altho he's done nothing since 2007, sure injuries have interrupted.

Presumably our recruiters envision a specific role for him somewhere, i don't see the point of us randomly trading in a utility.

I'm just saying, if he's a third man up type defender, we already have that. If he can play forward though, well that would be a big plus.

He has good skills and would be a real bonus for us. Would be happy to part with 27 for him as i think he would definetly add to our side. Only thing that worries me is that he is a Everitt, could be the type who will move on again in 3 or 4 years, if Spider is anything to go by.

Yes, agree with those points. That's why pick 27 is acceptable. IF he wants to go to another Club, and IF they want to cough up a 10-20 pick, then good luck to them. I just can't imagine anyone wanting to go to the Dees, because they might not be around in a few years time. IF Everitt wants to go to the Saints, and IF they want him, they'd be able to cough up more than us. The key point is what Everitt wants. IF he's very keen on the Blues and doesn't want to go elsewhere, the Bulldogs are left with the dilemma of taking pick 27 now, or get nothing, and keep a disgruntled player on their list for another year. Plus there's the Lake Contract Factor in play causing salary cap havoc. Still reckon it's unlikely he'll end up at the Blues, but you never know. Blues are the preferred destination of most players being traded, but the practicalities of the trade process makes it difficult. :)
