Rubbish. We had been going backwards for the last two years of Wallace term, it was just cushioned by the odd good result.

Thats not to say I am a Rohde fan but blame needs to apportioned where it is due.
Spon on, local. Wallet contributed to our poor list management in his last 2-3 years at the helm. Obsessed with small forward rotations, trickery and deception to cobble together OK results in 2001-2. Gave our young players virtually no game time even when selected (with the exception of Bobby). Top 6 players never injured during his tenure, so lack of KP depth was never an issue for Plough, and subsequently not addressed when it should have been. I should point out that Rohde was Plough's assistant in his last couple of years, so he was jus as culpable during our "treading water" years of 2001-2.

The beauty of a high profile coach is the extra sponsorhip they can bring.
Good point, but we cannot chase this type of coach with one hand tied behind our back by the AFL. 200K for Rohde was purely a financial decision but we didn't have to slash and burn the coaching dept to shreads. Laidley is on similar money to Rohde and look what he did for the Pies (forward coach) in 2002, and for North since he took over. Remember that we interviewed both Roos and Laidley before Rohde, and both would have been on not much more pay than Rohde is currently on. Plough was probably paid more by the Swans in 2003 that Roos was  With a Laidley or Roos, we could have turned a sow's ear into a silk purse, and get the best of both worlds, high quality coach at reasonable cost.
