3 weeks in and we say sack rhode

who exactly do we replace him with

he is doing the best he can with the cattle he inherited from 'fake tan' wallace

the simple answer is we aren't good enough

if we had grant fit, bandy playing - yes we should of won but we didn't and we lost

for those who are going to crack the $hits answer me this

1. who realistically is going to be the new coach

2. how much of the problem was caused by wallace

i think it is time we look at a merger - at least there would be no more excuses - look at how it worked for brisbane

Yeh and look how much it's done for Fitzroy....

Rubbish. We had been going backwards for the last two years of Wallace term, it was just cushioned by the odd good result.

Thats not to say I am a Rohde fan but blame needs to apportioned where it is due.

IMHO I reckon that someone like Pagan would have had us playing better.

You're right, but can we afford to pay $800,000 a year for a coach?

Rohde is looking less and less like the man for the job, but I do believe that he knows how to develop a list. There's no point sacking him before the end of the year. Let's just hope we come into some money at the same time a decent alternative shows up!

Anyone considering a merge deserves the $hit thats splatters all over you, because you haven't got any pride, and thats what has led to us accepting the AFL 'cheap fix' without clearly emphasising the damage it would cause (ie the 92% until after we lost out)
and that, along with a lack of pride (shown by the players today) show that maybe thats the only level you can raise yourself to!
In simple words, you are just like our players today, and hence not worth acknowledging!

For a coach I recommend 'He, Who Speaks Riddles'
THE MARTIAN MANHUNTER
(You'll work it out if you have any footy knowledge)

BR - I assume you refer to Malcom Blight? Strange Cat Malcolm ...

I'd prefer (as I have said on a couple threads) the Savage Jackboot of Stan Alves. He was unfairly dismissed after he got the Saints to a Grand Final & still has lots to offer. There goes a man who stand for no nonsence & would put the fear of the Devil into the playing group!!

Cheers

Stan Alves would be cool but he's been out for too long AND I think he has retired from everything AFL.

No I didn't mean Blight, although he is a strange cat he is more like 'Marvin The Martian' off of Hanna-barberra Looney Toons!

I am talking about the MARTIAN MANHUNTER who has such a successful 'Kill' Rate. Effectively 'out of contract' he is but a pipe-dream, but only because we haven't got the balls to try and recruit him using EVERYTHING at our disposal!

Give Rohde til half way through the year and see where we are at. I am not a fan of Rohde at all but we can't sack Rohde three weeks into the year. But i think if nothing happens this year and we end up in the bottom four or six then i think he should be sacked.

Other coaches who we should look at who are available and are not to expensive.

Rodney Eade- Got Sydney to a Grand Final and in the seven years he got swans in the finals five times. He is an experienced coach and i dont his expense but i do know that he tried out for the bulldogs job for 2003.

Tony Libretore- he coached Box Hill last year and got them to a Grand Final in his first year. This shows that he has the ability of being a good coach. He wont be expensive at all.

Brian Royal- He did well with our reserves in the years of Wallace. He did very well with Melbourne and is now doing well with the Kangaroos. He is someone like Libba who would do anything for the club and should have gotten the job ahead of Rohde.

Well why the Hell Not??????

For the record Blight was last seen swinging around his humble abode in QLD getting the Sun, as well as possibly sand and beach.
He was a commentator for the Lions games until Stkilda brought him back, but was last seen returning to QLD with his Satanic Tail between his legs!

Eade has a limited lifespan where his teams perofrmances deteriate after each season, mainly due to players losing faith in him

Libba won't coach our club or come back under the current regime (fine, lets dump the regime!!)

Royal, should he come back, will cause a walk-out of the playing group...Well those who haven't already left anyhow!
Hey thats a way to get some turnover for other good committed players, and the walkers will gain also, since they will be actaully doing something more then getting their pay cheques!

You must be joking. IMO you never ever merge for on field reasons, we are awful but that doesn't have to last forever. Merging just to make your playing list better is ridiculous, how long will the inital success last, you might be good for a few years but your clubv is gone forever. And you only merge for off field reasons if it is a simple equation, merge or die.

Change the Captian and the Coach

Chris Grant, a great guy and good player but a weak captain. Can't speak well and say the right things, doesn't get angry enough, doesn't present well on TV, doesn't lead well by example. Seems to lack passion.

Rhode, has had his chance, his is not clever enough, he does not have good insight, and he doesn't get angry enough either. He doesn't present himself well, he has made some unbelieable (but true) decisions. How far can Rhode take the team?

My choices:
Brad Johnson for Captain
Choco Royal for coach.

He speaks fine. And seems to lack passion??? Please, in what way does he seem to lack passion??? To me he seems to be one of our most passionate players. If he wasn't he would of went to Port

I wouldnt mind Gary Lyon as coach, he has done a great job with the international rules team over the last couple of years, and seems to get the players, to play with alot of passion, which is what we need.

Just a question over lack of experience, whether he would be willing to do the job.

I propose a Coaching rotation at the Doggies.. ala the Saints captaincy

Give Rhode the job one week, Chris Bond the following week, Leon Cameron the next and so on..

Then we look back at the end of the season and tally the results up to determine who is the coach internally to promote to the senior position.

:D Sorry just having some fun with this thread..

I should have elaborated further, i meant just in terms of being able to afford them. Obviously if you go out and get a high price high profile coach you would be expecting many benefits.

Chris Grant, ... Seems to lack passion.

The lack of passion is not in his play, its in his communication. A good leader must have good communication.

I don't see him waving his arms about, getting angry, pointing the finger, laying down the law, crying, getting nasty, yelling, doing things on the spur of the moment, smiling from ear-to-ear, waving his arms about, jumping up and down, stepping in to fights, jumping the the defense of players, initiating matters, getting followers stirred up. Nope.

Chris Grant shows no passion. He is like a lamb. He is an introvert.

Must change him as captain. Must also change the coach.
