This really anoys me about Conolly, why did it take him so long to put Pavlich at Centre half forward and why has it taken so long to put McPharlin in the forward line.
Why also has it taken them so long to realise when you have the marking abilities of Pavlich,Medhurst and McPharlin on your side would you not go long and direct and just bomb it in?

Well unless we get longmuir back in the 2nd half, we are going to struggle to move it forward of centre. You might see one of them go back in the 2nd half.

Connolly looked gutted at quarter time. I'm guessing it was one of the assistant coaches ideas and he wasn't happy because it worked.

If McPharlin played FF against Richmond, we still would have got spanked, probably by more.

The midfield was about a million times better today, kicking it deep into the fiddy. Great stuff.

Can't wait to get Haddrill and Polak back. Imagine that for a spine.

McPharlin - Pav - JLO - Polak - Haddrill.

Circumstances!!

You can't blame CC sabre. I'm not a fan of CC's but with Luke playing so well at CHB it was a risk to move him.

How about praising CC for taking the risk and making the move. Didn't it pay big dividends!!

Fanbloodytastic win!!!! Whoo!

You are very disappointing at times Sabre.

Mc Pharlin has been very solid as a back man and has been great. Dustin Fletcher has had hauls like this as a forward but is still the Bombers first choice full back. Freo has the 1st ranked defence in the league. There's a reason for that.

It was a gamble by Connolly (esp with out Hadrill or Polak) and if we did it week in week out I'm not sure it would be as effective.

CC took the punt that we'll win enough of the ball to give the forwards chance to win it. Because our backline was leaking like a sieve. Gee, if we had Polak and Haddrill back there it would be looking pretty bloody good on paper with McPharlin at FF.

Credit where credit's due, it was good coaching that won us the game.

If anything this has taught us that:

* Jlo is a very tough, talented young man
* Pavlich should be at CHF
* McPharlin does well at FF
* Medhurst can kick goals along with setting up numerous others
* Farmer can hit his old form
BUT most importantly
* No matter how unversatile and bad marker he is, Sandilands still proves to be a handy player to the team as depth in the ruck is needed.

From this game forward I will not jump off Freo after being down and looking out because they showed a hell of a lot of guts to get back in that game...particularly Longmuir!

thats right.. what coach in their right mind would take away the all star CHB from an already depleted back line against a team with such a strong forward line.

It worked though.. kudos to cc

!

I disagree! Sandi wouldn't of been any better against White. he may have made it harder for him at the centre bounces, but around the ground he would of got slaughtered . White is in great form and Johnson struggled against him, but a young guy learning the caper what do you expect. Jono will take a heap away from that quarter he lead our ruck.

I think Carr rucking around the ground in the last quarter proved its better to match White with mobility rather than focusing everything on winning ruck knocks.

Not only that but after taking the bounce Jono has the flexibility to go down back and take a tall forward. No way Sandi could.

Leave Sandi in the WAFL for now I say.

I am very disapointing at times??
Um ok

Yes freo has the number one defence but with Polak able to play McPharlins role (Marking option and defensively), McPharlin should have been thrown forward long ago.
Though he has been injured so that can be forgiven, as far as 2 years of Pavlich in the middle, now that was disgraceful.

PS. This isnt dockerland, Conolly can do wrong and no one is above critisim.

One reason is that there is now a very astute member of the Coaching Panel name of Broadbridge.

At least you can spell his name correctly, CONNOLLY, after all you are the Moderator.

I agree.

We still need a FF who can kick from 45metres plus. Having Mcpharlin taking marks and kicking goals from 25 metres is ok. But when I see him from 35 or more I get very bloody nervous.

He plays his best footy in the backline. We know now he can pich hit at FF. Just that in itself will give other coaches sleepless nights. More dimensions to our structure can only be good.

I have to say that I was VERY nervous about our defence today. I kept expecting the likes of Polak or McPharlin to sweep across to take the pack mark as a loose man, but there was no one there capable of doing so. I figured that seeing CC was a big fan of statistics, that was the reason for the gamble today. With our defence being the best in the league prior to yesterdays game, that was the reason for it.

Imagine if we would have lost because of it? The press would have been eating CC alive in tomorrows paper. I can't see McPharlin playing up forward again next week, he'll be back at CHB for mine as much as I'd love to see him stay up forward.

Haddrill played a full game in the WAFL today? He should be back next week?

Hows young Michael Warren looking? He's the young rookie ruckman that was promoted isn't he?

Johnson clearly has a few things that he needs to work on (defensively namely), back to the WAFL with him.

I think you are right.

It would be a hard decision to change a winning combo. I have become MJ's no1 fan. When he hits his straps he will be something verrry special

The other train of thought could be... against the maggies at home might give him one more senior game to increase his experience.

Who'd wanna be on the selection committee.
