Why has the Anzac Day game slowly morphed into a twilight fixture?

It's ridiculous that this fixture doesn't kick off at 2pm. It's a glorious day in Melbourne yet close to half of this game will be played under artificial light.
It's also worth mentioning that a large number of people (many of them elderly) who've been up early for the dawn service are forced to wait around needlessly for another hour just so a greedy tv network can run straight into their 6pm news bulletin.
The AFL is a disgrace. Both Gil and channel 7 can get stuffed.

The Essendon V Collingwood game has been played at the same time slot now for the past 4 years-- how is it "slowly morphing into a twilight game" despite being on the same day of the year and same time??

Was going to start a more generic thread about start times for day games at the G in autumn.

With the height of the northern stands, shadows play a big part. We should be maximising the amount of time the ground is bathed in sunshine on such a beautiful autumn day. Start at 1:30 even.

This timeslot you hardly get any "night" part anyhow.

Oh, and to answer OP question: it is so channel 7 can have the end of the game run straight into their news bulletin. No. Other. Reason.

It's shit I agree.

FWIW the elderly get up at dawn every day
Yeah always puzzled me as a kid on school holidays wondering why my retired grandparents would always be up and having a cup of tea at 6.30am daily. I couldn’t work it out, it’s not like they had work

It's a reflection of the AFL's (and TV broadcasters') preference for Twilight Games. From a WA point of view , it works well too as it means we don't have to rush back from a dawn service/lunch to catch the game on TV. Off topic, but it's only a matter of time before the GF becomes a twilight fixture too....
