That's not true. The two premierships we won without playing in a Grand Final (1897 and 1924) were both intimes far removed from any world wars. They were full-on normal league seasons. Both years, the top four teams qualified for the finals. The four finalists would play the other three teams once each, and they would have a mini finals series-ladder after those three matches. Whoever was on top of the ladder after those three matches won the premiership. Essendon "won" the finals series in 1897 and 1924, and therefore were deserved premiers.

Carlton won three war-time premierships in 1914,1915 and 1945. Want me to take those away from you?

i'm sorry, but i just don't get how someone can hate a team just because we won a few premierships and they don't like our president!
the fact that u even know who r president is is good for the club, the fact taht he speeks out about what he thinks is also good, it advertises the club and he aint as controversial as Gutnick!
he's always good for a laugh, and i'm not saying i agree with him, in fatc most of teh time i think he's f*ckhead too!
but he's just the president, something for the club to advertise with and give us money when we need it!
he's no reason to hate our club!
u don't hate melbourne coz of gutnick, or collingwood coz of mcGuire, well i don't anyway, if u wanna hate the club, fine, but think of a better reason...
and by the way we don't have any thugs playing for our team at the moment, fraser brown left!

I don't just hate Essendon or Carlton just because they are sucsessful, although it doesn't help. It is because of their supporters. But you see I also have a real problem with Fremantle. I hate their guts. I hate their jumpers more than any other side and I hate the way they treated their coach. If they got kicked out of the league, would anybody care?

Why do I hate Carlton?
Its in my blood. I am a Collingwood supporter, and Collingwood hates Carlton and vica-versa...And we wouldn't have it any other way.

Just for the record, if there were a Essendon/Carlton Grand Final for the next 10 years, then i'd be hoping Essendon win every time.
