Why Hill, why?

ill probably regret this but i traded him out. Fremantle are a terrible side, and the more games a side loses the less points each player will have. And for a first year rookie with the weight of the world on his shoulders, thats bad news.

Freo will be lucky to win 7 games for the year and i cant see hill averaging more than 40 based on his 1st two games. Need the best cash cows now if you want to be upgrading to guns in round 7,8,9,etc.

Have Hill as my 7th defender, with Raines and Broughton on the pine, i have been thinking about this all week, i havnt made a trade thus far and the only two players in my team not scoring are Anthony and Raines, with Broughton probably getting a game this week, i have decided to buck the trend and keep Hill, im not sold on Cheney he had a decent first game, very ordinary last week,

Harvey will be playing Hill alot this year, he needs to persist with him, the fact that if Hill gets dropped he will drop 10K, yeah i will gain all up around 100k with Cheney, im adleast goiing to hold out and see if Hill plays.

Worst comes to worst Rance is an option, just think too many people are jumping off too eary, could come back to bite you in the ass later on down the track, its a long season.

Need the best cash cows? You don't need to have all the best cash cows, just enough to make upgrades at Rd7-8. If you are struggling for cash cows, may be think about a trade, but otherwise, bit of a wasted trade imo.

The other thing to think about is you are using a trade to get another rookie without making a great deal of money, which as a general rule, is fairly risky. Job security for rookies is generally not that great.

The one thing that I believe is being overlooked in this whole situation is the trade options. Personally, I cant afford to upgrade hill, unless I trade raines too. This means that I most likely have to downgrade. The obvious options being Cheney, Petrenko, and Rance. None of these 3 players are safe bets. Cheney was horrible on the weekend(forget his DT score) and if he plays like that again he will be dropped...remembering whelan and wheatley are due to come back into the side. Petrenko may be dropped tonight with Symes having a ripper game in the SANFL on the w.e, but may last an other week or 2. In regards to Rance, Raines is listed as 2 weeks away and Jordy is playing VFL, he puts a bad a game or two together and he will have pressure on his spot too. On the upside none of these players look like they will get to 280K anyway. What is the point of trading one dud cash cow to an other. Ecspecially when Hill still has a lot of upside. I know he was woeful on the w.e, but I can't believe that a player of his potential and quality can play that bad 2 weeks in a row. We all saw what he is capable of. Class is permanent form is temporary.

Fremantle drafted Hill for a reason and I hope they don't lose patience like a lot of dreamteamers.

I thought with Raines being injured and Houli still unlikely to be picked this week, they were more important trades to make.

A good score from Hill will be really good about now though.

gday fellas, have only just made an account and thought i might add some discussion. for those who care, both hill and suban are playing this week, with broughton only being a possibility =)

Now I'm really unsure.

Was hell bent on Giving Hill the flick, terrible game last week, I thought he would get dropped and never return. Not keen on picking another Tambling. NOW he might get another game!

I bet if I trade him he'll score 60+ every week for the rest of the year.

I hate dreamteam

At this stage i would call 40 a good score for hill :)

I've been agonising over this all week and have come to the decision to put Broughton on the ground, bench Hill as an emergency to sit alongside Raines and let the cards fall where they fall.

I know he will probably drop cash but it won't be enough to make it worth burning a trade this early. He's fit and he's playing.

Having said that, here's a pic of where my backline might be at in a few weeks time:

I will be keeping both Hill and Raines. Hill is one decent game away from some very steady price increases and an almost permanent spot in the Dockers team. That and Raines doesnt look like he will be too far away from playing again.

All those people who are trading Hill out of defense now are going regret it in the near future. Ok, so Hill may drop 10k in price, but i'd rather that than waste a trade on Cheney/Rance who are NOT in the best 22 of their respective sides. Fremantle need to blood their youth, they're not going to play finals this year so they may as well play youngsters. And the biggest cash cow movers are in the mids (if you have hill as a mid than IMO i would trade). Cannot wait to see Hill's scores improve while all you who have traded will be kicking yourselves up the bum :D

But i think Petrenko and Cheney can both score similar to Raines maybe 10 point less and be playing most games whilst making really good money aswell. I wouldve only kept Raines had their been nothing to trade to but it seems that their is some good players to downgrade to now.

Hill is a very tough choice, he probably wont get the 56 BE required but a fit player, that is a cash cow, that is player probably shoulnt be traded out. Im sure once he gets his confidence up from one good or decent game he will back himself in alot more.

Hill is also 40% or so more expensive than other rookies and therefore has to score more to rise comparatively which he's been a long way from achieving so far. I don't have him but i understand completely why people are considering dumping him as he's not a cashcow if he's not making any cash.

Cheney on the other hand has been starting so he's currently in their best available 18 and i figure less likely to be dropped than any of the other back rookies when players return from injury and looks set to rise about $50,000 this week. There's also the fact that you get back $56,000 on the deal. $116,000 on 1 rookie trade and more player security sounds good enough to me at this stage. Time will tell i guess.

Taking a slight risk this week. Got Suban and Hill, one has to start in place of Raines. Decided Im going to start Hill and hopefully he scores better.

Firstly I am glad the mods did not delete this thread and after the initial agruments about the threads worth there has been some good discussion.

From the looks of things Hill is going to play this week and in that case i think you would be insane to trade him now. A score of 50 can be achieved even from a bad performance (see Cheney) and Hill proved pre-season that with confidence can easily score 50+ which would mean his price does not drop.

Even if he does not and only scores 20 his price will decrease by only 15K. In the big scheme of things this is not much and hardly worth a trade.

One thing everyone seems to forget. If he plays this week it means Harvey must have a huge amount of faith in the guy. I don't think anyne would have a go at him for replacing him with another rookie say Broughton. That being said if he does have a half decent game with 10 - 20 possies you would assume he is a lock for future games baring injuries.

Worth the risk in my opinion and if you still want to trade him after this week you will still have Rance to trade to.

this is almost the hardest decision ive ever had to make in DT! to trade or not to trade. i was going to, but a couple of posts have made me rethink. the thing im most worried about is if Hill really does have another stinker, will Harvey STILL back him in?

the other point to consider is the conflicting views over cheney's spot in the demons team. some people say he'll stay long enough to be a decent cash cow whilst some say he's not in the best 22? aren't there enough injuries to help him keep his spot? what if the bad game he played last week (didn't watch) was a one-off (albeit unlikely)?

If he doesnt make his BE this week, that will be bad. However it wont be because of the price decrease, because that will be irrelevant in round 10 when he starts to peak in value. The only reason not making his BE will be bad is it means he perhaps didnt play well and is a little closer to getting dropped. I still wouldnt trade him out if he gets a low score this week, because it will only take one good score of 70+ which he is capable of, before he will go up 100k+ over the course of a few weeks.

Until Stephen Hill gets injured, dont trade him.
