Re: Why do Fitzroy have a board?

You hav got my support boys.

Good on you for supporting something you truly believe in.

You must cop this crap at least once a year.
I would assume mostly from upstarts from young clubs like wc, freo, crows et al, not by victorian foundation clubs.

Carn' Fitzroy :thumbsu:
hey dillbrain it was the foundation clubs who wanted the upstarts in the comp to cash themselves back up remember? the only mistake they made was their expectations re the success of the new teams, even with the unfairness of the draw every year cant stop the professionally run interstate clubs from dominating the comp, face it victoria is not the strong hold of aussie rules

Ask any brisbane or sydney follower and they snort at the idea that they are connected to fitzroy/south melbourne,

Rubbish. Go to the Brisbane board and you won't find that sentiment at all. Many of those that post there are Queenslanders and many acknowledge the club's link to Fitzroy.

it makes me laugh everytime i hear brisbane referred to as the brisbane lions and to a lesser extent sydney swans, we all know that they are that but i dont hear commentators referring collingwood as the collingwoof magpies or hawthorn as the hawthorn hawks all the time.

The Brisbane Lions board has officially requested of all the media outlets both radio and TV, that the club be called, and appear as, the "Brisbane Lions", not merely as "Brisbane." This request has been in place since 2000.

outside of melbourne who bloody cares about fitzroy and south melbourne!

Quite a few. The Brisbane Lions, based in Queensland are holding what is believed to be the largest player reunion in the history of the AFL, where all Fitzroy, Bears and Lions players have been invited. The decision to wear the Fitzroy jumper in Rounds 14 (for the 70's themed heritage round) and Rounds 19 (in honor of past Fitzroy players) has been met with large support by many supporters, including many of those based in Queensland. Again refer to the Brisbane board for examples. Likewise the recent application by the Brisbane Lions to have the Fitzroy records from 1897 to be included by the AFL in their official AFL records is another example.

if all that makes you feel better i am happy for you mate but one day reality will hit - the next generation my kids who range from 15 down to 2 dont know and dont care about fitzroy and south i know this sounds like i am sinkng the boots in but i'm not i am just being honest, enjoy looking back at your history but clinging to brisbane and thinking fitzroy are part of them is an absolute joke and i know i have brizzy rellies who follow the lions and their perception is what i described before its just a matter of time - you make it sound like fitzroy are making a comeback and the masses acually care - laughable

please note everyone that scumhater hasn't at any time said he/she didn't understand why there should be a Fitzroy board. they're not right on every point but they're not as far off as most of the naysayers are. i appreciate their input actually. i'm sure they'd be of the same opinion about the west torrenses and so forth. consistency, at least :)

correct about kids not knowing, but remember .. we already know that, scumhater, have to deal with it every day.

it is incorrect about the brisbane link being a joke though. take note too that i am a fitzroy fan who doesn't care for brisbane. i follow local footy now. the Brissy association doesn't do it for me. but the facts are there (see: Roylion for more info), and it does it for many.

you definitely are incorrect about believing that you "know", because you have "brissy rellies". c/f the brissy fans in the brissy board. many are bears fans who are of a different ilk to your rellies. sure the example you state is a real one, but its not the be all and end all.

funny that you should say there is a belief here that fitzroy are making a comeback and the think the masses care ... you're on the fitzroy board :) this is where what Brissy does and is matters differently and personally to each person here, and nobody argues that the other bloke's opinion is wrong. the only ones who do, are those least likely to know ... folks from other teams.

The Fitzroy board is here for Fitzroy fans. Some are Brisbane fans, some hate Fitzroy's guts. Some barrack for Fitzroy Reds, some don't follow footy any more at all.

Everybody's welcome to share an opinion, and I think I show that is so by fielding all the outsider comments into this thread instead of deleting the troll-type posts. scumhater's posts aren't trolling, they aren't the "tour of duty" style idiocy that you see prior from others. Here's somebody with a strong opinion, perhaps not as respectful as some might hope. But I think when he/she said "if all that makes you feel better i am happy for you mate" I think it was honest, I'm prepared to say :thumbsu:, might not agree with all you say but think you're coming from the right side of the passion tracks when you say it.

BTW we also try to keep up to speed with the Fitzroy AFC results in the SAAFL (name changed now I think). which are the scum you refer to? Adelaide? Port Adelaide? Glenelg? The boys in white? :D

the next generation my kids who range from 15 down to 2 dont know and dont care about fitzroy and south

Why would you worry about this? Surely Fitzroy and South's heritage is really only important to the Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans clubs and those of their supporters and members that have an interest in those aspects of the club. Clearly the Brisbane Lions club do know, and do care, about Fitzroy. If Brisbane Lions supporters don't want a bar of the Fitzroy history, then they don't have to have anything to do with it.

clinging to brisbane and thinking fitzroy are part of them is an absolute joke

As I have said before, in many places, that in the AFL, the Brisbane Lions are the guardians of the Fitzroy tradition and identity in that competition. This isn't the thread to go through all the reasons why that is so...but do a search on my posts and you'll find a list of those reasons.

and i know i have brizzy rellies who follow the lions and their perception is what i described before

And the perception of many other Brisbane Lions supporters, both in Victoria and Queensland is different to your relatives. Your relatives will be following a club that will be wearing the old Fitzroy jumper in Rounds 14 and Rounds 19. Take a look at the discussion of about the old Fitzroy jumper being worn by the Lions on the main board AND the Brisbane board. Take note of the amount of supporters that say they'll be purchasing the old Fitzroy jumper that will be on sale in Queensland at the Lions shop. Take a look at the supporters that have suggested that the old Fitzroy jumper, or something very similar would make a great Brisbane Lions clash jumper

you make it sound like fitzroy are making a comeback and the masses acually care - laughable

Where did I say or imply that Fitzroy are making a comeback? All I have stated categorically in this thread are two things.

1) Fitzroy Football Club, that once held an AFL licence still exist. That is fact.
2) The Brisbane Lions are the representatives of Fitzroy in the AFL for a whole host of reasons that I've mentioned elsewhere on these boards, not the least of which is that they will be donning the Fitzroy jumper twice and holding a massive Fitzroy player reunion later this year. That is a fact acknowledged by the Fitzroy Football Club themselves.

Nowhere have I said or implied that the Brisbane Lions ARE Fitzroy, if that is what you are implying. Clearly they are not.

this is where what Brissy does and is matters differently and personally to each person here, and nobody argues that the other bloke's opinion is wrong. the only ones who do, are those least likely to know ... folks from other teams.

Exactly Mobbs. Fitzroy fans can support whatever and whoever they want at any level. It doesn't worry me in the slightest if Fitzroy fans don't follow the Brisbane Lions. However there are some very good Fitzroy reasons for some Fitzroy folk to profess an allegiance to the Brisbane Lions and we're going to see a couple of those in the latter half of the AFL season. Some supporters of other clubs appear to have trouble comprehending those reasons.

And the other main thing to remember is that the Fitzroy Football Club still exists in its' own right. Some respondents to this thread appear to have a very difficult time comprehending that fact also.

roy, repeat after me

FITZROY

ARE

DEAD

Prove it. If we're dead then surely we don't exist at all.

And once again..please note that:

* The Fitzroy Football Club had 1,177 members in 2006. (Apparently we're all members of something that is "dead") Source: Fitzroy Football Club 2006 Annual Financial Report.
* The Fitzroy Football Club that exists today is legally the same entity that held an AFL licence up until 1996. ACN 005 881 201. ABN 20 005 881 201. Club Registration Date: 09/07/1981. Fitzroy Football Club left the AFL in 1996. Next Review Date 09/07/2007. Source: ASIC Database.
* The Fitzroy Football Club sell their own merchandise at the Fitzroy shop.
* The Fitzroy Football Club have their own website www.fitzroyfc.com.au
* The Fitzroy Football Club have their own board of directors (10 in number, 6 of whom were on the Fitzroy board in 1996 when the club left the AFL). Dyson Hore-Lacy is still the chairman.
* The Fitzroy Football Club is a signatory to the current merger agreement with the Brisbane Lions. If Fitzroy Football Club does not exist there is no merger agreement.
* The Fitzroy Football Club made a profit of over $12,000 in 2006 and have total assets totalling $40,000 as well as share capital of $583,000.
* The Fitzroy Football Club supports the Fitzroy Reds, the Fitzroy High School and the Fitzroy Junior Football Club, all of whom play in the authentic Fitzroy jumper. Both the Reds and the Juniors operate out of the Brunswick St.Oval.
* The Fitzroy Football Club currently owns the "FFC monogram" trademark and their permission must be sought for the Fitzroy jumper to be worn by any other club/entity. The Fitzroy Football Club have given their permission for the Fitzroy jumper to be worn in two AFL matches in Rounds 14 and Rounds 19 for the 2007 season.

So come on. Prove that Fitzroy is "dead"

And on top of the above, I can go into detail about the Brisbane Lions connection to Fitzroy, in the AFL, if you like. However I dont want to overload you with too much information all at the one time.

hey roy, what is it like to be a member of a club that doesnt exist?
pity that show the twilight zone isnt still on - you would have been a beauty for their show you and your 1176 mates coulda gone to the junction oval and set up there waiting for a game that wasnt on, lets say against south melbourne ha ha and their diehard fans could have gone as well, maybe we could do a rehash of the show at the lakeside oval
I can see it now you would probably get a bigger crowd than when you did have a team but i hear you say we have 1177 members or whatever it is WTF? of a club that dont exist anymore? "their coming to take me away haha their coming to take me away haha" that could be your club song!!!
i dont believe the crap that i have read just in one day on this forum

i see you are not online at the minute - what are you at the social club discussing this weekends match - oh hang on what match?
MATE YOU NEED TO BE CERTIFIED!!!!!!!!!

If the Fitzroy Football club has 1177 members, excuse my ignorance but what are they members of???????...........i know the obvious answer is Fitzroy football club...................................but it's my understanding the club doesnt exist!!!!.........to me thats putting money on Phar Lap for the 2007 Melbourne Cup sort of the same problems Phar lap once competed albeit many years ago and to state the obvious its dead!!!...
and you say you sell your own merchandise????............what from the glory days of "Super Boot"............come on guys the world and footy changed............i appreciate your love of a club that once was but time to move on i think..............if not seek professional help!!!

Hate to dissapoint my fellow Adelaidians, but the ''dead'' club does exist, & guess what ? right in your own backyard.

Wearing this

& playing from here

Not sure if we'd be partial to a bloke calling himself scumhater but maybe you'd like to bring the from 2 to 15's along & sign them up for a game. That'll get some Fitzroy into ya.

hey roy, what is it like to be a member of a club that doesnt exist?

Which club would that be? I think I've demonstrated quite clearly that the Fitzroy Football Club still exist.

pity that show the twilight zone isnt still on - you would have been a beauty for their show you and your 1176 mates coulda gone to the junction oval and set up there waiting for a game that wasnt on, lets say against south melbourne ha ha and their diehard fans could have gone as well, maybe we could do a rehash of the show at the lakeside oval

That's a great deal of noise and bluster you're coming out with, but you still haven't proved that Fitzroy Football Club don't exist, as I asked. Are you actually going to say anything of substance?

I can see it now you would probably get a bigger crowd than when you did have a team but i hear you say we have 1177 members or whatever it is WTF? of a club that dont exist anymore? "their coming to take me away haha their coming to take me away haha" that could be your club song!!! i dont believe the crap that i have read just in one day on this forum

Been reading over your own posts again have you?

Once again anytime you'd like to prove that the Fitzroy Football Club don't exist, please post it here. Your little rants such as the ones above are quite amusing, but don't really add anything to the conversation.

If the Fitzroy Football club has 1177 members, excuse my ignorance but what are they members of???????...........i know the obvious answer is Fitzroy football club...................................but it's my understanding the club doesnt exist!!!!

Your 'understanding' is incorrect.

and you say you sell your own merchandise????............what from the glory days of "Super Boot"............

You can see exactly what the Fitzroy Football Club sells in the way of merchandise by looking at the website www.fitzroyfc.com.au

You can also visit the Fitzroy shop which is run and staffed by Fitzroy volunteers. In fact the newest item that will shortly go on sale is Jim Main's as yet unreleased new title, "Fitzroy"

As for current football teams that represent Fitzroy you can check out the links on the Fitzroy Football Club website.

come on guys the world and footy changed............i appreciate your love of a club that once was but time to move on i think..............if not seek professional help!!!

Ahhh...yet another who struggles with the concept that a club can leave the AFL competition and yet still exist. Yet would this same person argue that the Port Adelaide Football Club pre 1996 is the same club as the Port Adelaide Football Club now in the AFL?

Well a few were at the the Brunswick St Oval yesterday watching the Fitzroy Reds have a good win 22 point win over St. Pats. Only caught the last quarter on my way home from work. There was no football this weekend for the Fitzroy Junior Football Club, but my sons will be back in action for them next weekend.

this would have to be the funniest thread Ive ever read.......in one corner we have a group albeit small group of Fitroy supporters.....who are trying in vain may I add that they really exist as a true football identity.........sorry guys move on no-one give a toss, and in the other corner a group who are saying "move on"....................

gee cant wait to get my hands on a copy of Jim Mains "Fitzoy" it'll be a best seller no doubt.....................and Hollypig hate to have to remind you but Fitzroy is actually in Victoria..............NOT ADELAIDE!!!!........

Honestly this would have to be the biggest load of crap I've ever had the misfortunate of reading on a football website....................REMEMBER FITZROY.............YOU DONT PLAY AFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..................................MAYBE I SHOULDNT STATE THE OBVIOUS!!!.........YOU GOT KICKED OUT COZ YOU WHERE CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!................YOU LOST BOTH GAMES AND MONEY AND NO-ONE LIKES A LOSER!!!...

WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but they do exist power01 they have 1177 looney members who say so!
there are the fitzroy "reds" - now if they had any affiliation with the lions wouldnt they be called just that?

you are 100% correct in your observations, however how sad is it?

ok roy hit us with your prove it rubbish o

Ok I take it back ... thought he might have been a vaguely more clever one. But, nope, not even the ability to understand what a fact is.

Both these knuckleheads have spent approximately 75% of all their posts on Bigfooty here at the Roys board ... and they're getting reamed by the Roys that they deny exist :)

Maybe you could give your own boards more of a look in, or do the regulars there already know how embarassing you kids are? Is this your penance?

and Hollypig hate to have to remind you but Fitzroy is actually in Victoria..............NOT ADELAIDE!!!!........

Sounds like Adelaide to me champ

About 5k down Torrens Rd from Alberton none the less.

Christ if Fitzroy is dead & not in Adelaide what the hell am I doing at 8am every second Sunday morning setting up the ground for the 6's, 8's, & under 9's, manning the Barby at 10 oclock then heading off to an away game to see a team called Fitzroy play in an under 15's comp, then vise versa the next weekend?

& who are these guys?

All proof that there is indeed a Fitzroy, we are an arm of the spirit of the mighty Lions & alive & kicking.
