Why no green in AFL guernsey's?

With all of the now 18 AFL guernseys's on show, why has no club ever had green as one of it's colours?
Many clubs in lesser leagues have had green guernsey's over the years including the Tasmanian state jumper .The former Woodville Malcolm Blight played for in SA green and gold similar to Hawthorn plus other changes.Now Woodville,West Torrens which is greeen yellow and blue.
The great NTFL side St Marys is green and gold too.
In rugby league the Rabittohs are green and red which looks ok.
I can not for the life of me understand why no one has chosen green to be part of their guernsey instead of a shocking orange and charcoal.
Teal is a good colour by the way.It is apparently classed as blue not green?

it was said that western sydney was going to have working class colours, so i pictured them being green and black, or something similar, and then they end up with a bloody tank top look that you might see at the beach. they missed their chance to go " grungy " and went insipid instead.they could have had a grass green jumper with a black W on it, or something along those lines, but now they are the GIANTS forget it !!!!!!!

I reckon the Saint Marys jumper with the gold shorts looks great. Mind you, having an indigenous bloke in the colours helps a lot. If you had some anemic Victorian or in that strip it wouldn't look half as good.

I've heard the Dockers ditched their green away jersey in the 90s because it does indeed blend in with the grass and at times made it difficult to quickly spot a teammate upfield. This theory makes sense given green is a popular colour for soccer goalkeepers, as it is meant to make the goalkeeper blend in with the grass giving the illusion of an empty goal and causing players to hit their shot up the middle, straight to the keeper.

There's some sort of myth going around in motor sports that green does not provide a good contrast to show up the advertisers' logos as well as some other colours. In Europe green was supposed to be an unlucky colour for a racing car (but not the British of course). I think the advertising thing applies for football jumpers too.

Utah Jazz have a bit of green in a few of their jersey designs last year, and have had it as the primary colour in their away jerseys a few times to good effect.

A few posts commenting on St Mary's FC. Well that jumper is basically a copy of an older indigenous club from Alice Springs - Pioneers, formed in 1947, five years before Ted Egan went North and founded St Marys. Despite the photo their shorts are traditionally yellow like the eagle.
