Why not Fyfe the forward??

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Have you watched Mora play?
Built like a brick s***house but doesn't play with any aggression or throw himself through packs to try and get the ball out like Fyfe.
Mora would be better played forward than Fyfe.
Mora perfectly built for a power inside mid type role, but plays more like an outside winger/mid.

Given his unfortunate injury history I reckon that's understandable.

Nobody's suggesting them as permanent forwards, but temporary replacements in a crisis period where most of our actual forwards are injured or suspended.

Can we set up a permaban for members who create strawmen and call for other board members to be banned? It would help raise the quality of posts by removing content-free flaming.

After you :)

Our midfield group are already struggling - so shifting another player forward to leave Mundy on his own to get clearances to me isn't a good solution. Sure that might fix completion of forward entries, but then we have an issue of how to get them there in the first place. Suban, De Boer don't cut it.

Better to persist with Taberner, work Mayne into form, or even work with Clarke than shifting a key defender (that's hoping on a prayer) or our best mid.

Fyfe resting forward sure, but his work in the middle is impossible for us to replace. We're better for Fyfe, Mundy & Barlow in the middle.

Who made you the f***ing arbiter of what people can and can't f***ing say here?

;):p

Massive LOL.

I agree that we need Fyfe in the midfield. But Luke McPharlin isn't a midfielder, and we have Alex Silvagni who could take his spot and performed well there when McPharlin was injured previously.

No part of our team is struggling more than the forward line at the moment. Typically the response to that would be to put some more of your good players there.

It was a self nomination based on bigfooty fan votes :p

Lukey isn't a forward any more than sending Pav to the backline (or the midfield) is a good idea.

We've experimented with Alex up forward in the past (to at least maintain continuity). Having continuity in a group (defenders, midfielders, forwards) that understand each other, where to run and where to be is more important than people give credit to. Disrupting that further is that last thing we should do.

McPharlin has played plenty of games as a Full Forward and Pavlich made All Australian as a defender. Could you have picked a worse analogy?

McPharlin kicked 34 goals from 19 games in 2005, and 20 in 2 seasons previous, most of them as a key forward, despite not playing all the season there. He is a very capable key forward.

We haven't got that continuity due to injuries or suspensions anyway. Not even trying to put together a forward line for reasons of "continuity" is pretty spurious. Whoever plays forward this week is not likely to be there permanently due to players returning from injury. But we still need to pick a team to try and win this week, and that means picking a forward line out of the guys we have.

so you are willing to play mcpharlin in full forward against the eagles with kennedy, darling and (cox/nit nat/sinclair/lycett)?

pavlich WAS an all australian defender early in his career ... as Arc was implying sending him to the backline NOW will be a bad idea.

Might need to after the MRP have their fun ;)

The analogy was spot on - I didn't think I'd have to explain it but for your benefit -

Just because someone a long time ago has experience in a position - does not mean you transplant them from their current position where they have spent the most amount of time of late. Aka - moving McPharlin forward is as good an idea as moving Pavlich to the backline. Sure on paper it looks good, but it's a long time since either have played that position, and it'd be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I agree with picking a forward line with the guys we have. So let's go with any of the suggestions I put forward (pun intended) that would be far better alternatives to McPharlin.

Mora's disposal let him down last game too. He's still got a way to go

Interesting how Mora is judged along side the other Mcgoo players
If any of the other Peel boys had been in the best players week after week had 27 disposals yesterday in the middle ,had multiple clearances and I50's we would be screaming for him to get a game in the firsts. Ballard and Grey had reasonable games but were miles behind Mora but there a calls for a rookie upgrade and a derby berth for them but Mora has a long way to go.
The expectations on Mora are really unreasonable.

Fyfe isnt really a midfielder strictly speaking. Hes everywhere.

I like your train of thought here. We really need to start thinking outside of the box; the truth is we have an amazing array of midfielders (and even some defenders) who could play forward if need be,

Fyfe: Excellent aerial ability and accurate kick for goal
Mundy: Excellent accuracy and ability to find the ball just outside the forward 50.
Hill: Great reach and effective kick.
D. Pearce: small target that can play in the like of Ballanytne.
Mzungu: Recently been an incredible accurate kick for goal and bobs up at the right time.
Barlow: Same as above, especially as a crumbing forward.
C. Pearce: Monstrous kick for goal and accurate

D pearce isnt like ballantyne. Hes mostly a run off back and accurate kick. Pretty different players, its like saying mundy and pav are similar because they are the same height.

Also if he was anything like ballantyne he would be used as a small forward to replace walters which is no no nope no.

Not judging him harsher - he's more deserving of a call-up than the others. If anything, there are more expectations in the sense of him being able to contribute to have real impact sooner compared to immature bodies in their first year, so it's more a case of him getting his touch back in a position he's expected to fill.

I wouldn't upgrade any of them yet ;)

Can someone please remind me, because I genuinely can't recall, was Morabito's disposal ever considered elite in his debut season? My overwhelming memory of him is a bull that can thump the ball a long way but who's decision making was occasionally awry, as with any young player.
Why would he suddenly become an elite kick if he wasn't before?

You are right. He was a long kick, a very long kick but tended to be erratic. Missed plenty of goals under no pressure with nobody in front of him, albeit from 60 metres.

Morabito is very much a Dangerfield type player. Explosive, hard to tackle, just throws it on the boot and hopes for the best.

But that's still pretty good.

kind of true but he can hoof it 60M easily and he is good around goals from stoppages. Would be a massive upgrade in our forward line.

The time has come.

A) we are far too predictable in our clearances. Hit it to Fyfe is plan A to Z.

B) As good as he is, Fyfe generates absolutely filthy clearances and inside 50's (partly because the opposition have solved our plans A through to Z)

C) A midfield of Mundy, Neale, Barlow and Hill is still A grade.

D) Pav is back to being double or triple teamed even with Taberner present. Fyfe demands respect and attention in a way that Taberner never will.

Fyfe will always be required for some midfield clearances but more time in the forward line would make sense. Fyfe does make our forward line look suddenly dangerous.

geez, I don't know about this as an idea. If you look at last night as an example, Freo only got back into the game when Fyfe returned back into the middle. I think Fyfe is good for a few goals and a rest up forward, but in the middle is where it is won and lost and Fyfe is the best clearance player in the game.
