Since the Fitzroy - Bears Merger, most of the debate, discussion and unhappiness has been between supporters of the current Brisbane Lions and the supporters of the former Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy Lions.

What has happened to make it such public debate 4 years after the merger?

Personally I can't understand it.

Of 15 clubs, 13 voted in favour of the merger. 1 didn't, being North as they wanted it for themselves, and Fiztroy of course abstained.

July 4th this year was 4 YEARS since that vote and the merger agreement papers were signed. The terms and conditions of those papers have been met. In fact, some have actually even been voluntarily exceded by the new club. Even tho I beleive that the Brisbane Lions could have handled situations better with the supporters of both clubs, they never actually violated the terms of the merger.

What has happened to make this such a contentious issue during this years final series?

Yes, Woof has brought it up on a number of occasions by referring to the Brisbane Lions as the Bears and calling the merger a 'sham marriage'. Now I don't really care what he calls the Brisbane Lions...in fact I'm quite happy the Lions are giving him such heartburn.

However what I find quite amazing is all these people who consider the merger a failure or a takeover, for whatever reason (hatred of Brisbane, fear of interstate clubs..who knows) can't muster up a rational, logical argument to explain or justify their views. Red Devil tried, using peripheral things such as players, training bases etc etc., but even the best he can do is easily refuted, as I did on another thread. He hasn't bothered to reply to those arguments, mostly because I don't think he can.

Same with Woof. He gets on here, spouts off about the "sham marriage" and can't back up his statements. Now why he's doing this is obvious. He's trying to get a rise out of Brisbane supporters for whatever reason. I just laugh when I read his comments. All he's really doing is making himself look foolish and ignorant. A close look at the facts of the merger demonstrates in my view, it isn't a 'sham marriage'... at this stage. (The merger process isn't finished.)

All I've done is explain why I hold the views that I do and that Woof and Red Devil (who as far as I know weren't even Fitzroy supporters or members in 1996!) don't know what they are talking about.

Let everyone else decide for themselves, but at least consider all the facts to date.
