It has been leaked that the AFL has sent a memo to all coaches reminding them not to speak negitive about the NAB cup.
Firstly, IMO only one coach has come close to this and he has a history of it,Grant Thomas.
The rest have as far as I am aware only spoke about rational issues.
One of those issues was responded to by the AFL that they(the AFL) take player welfare seriously. This was in response to the games being played in excessive heat.Did they take player welfare seriously when they introduced the kick in rule? That rule puts more strain on our players in a sport that is physically demanding.
Also this memo asks coaches to be aware of the impact their comments could have, did the very person asking this do the very same thing when he slagged off Sydney last year? IMO there is more than one club that plays the style he critisised yet he clearly singled out Sydney.Did he conside its impact? Is it Ok for him to say his piece but no one else?
Secondly, why did we get a memo? To send one to us was a waste of time as we dont operate in the way this letter asks clubs not to operate, yet we get one.
IMO individuals either cross the line in whats fair critisism and whats not, those who's critisism crosses the line should be dealt with, not everyone innocent getting the same treatment as the guilty ones.

Thinks it's in reference to Dean Laidleys comments last week and Malthouse

Ross ‘The Boss’ Oakley will be remember as the CEO who made it a national competition Wayne Jackson will be remembered for making the AFL a truly professional league and brokering the first super media deal. Andrew Demetriou will be remember as an evil Victorian dictator who only ever followed the quote “ Do as I say, not as I do”.

Its called the shotgun theory. Its like at work when a memo is sent out to all workers , even though you and I know its meant for that lazy bludger in section 57. The philosophy is that there can be no discrimination , nor excuses of ''well I wasnt told''

Craig did say on TV tonight that if he was seriously trying to win the NAB Cup he would be playing both Goodwin and Bock this week.

But I am under the Impression that the Afl meant critising the legitamcy of the NAB cup and its scheduling of times and such,as what has gone on
Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think the memo had anything to do with how a club prepares its list for the home and away.

...
By saying it's not important then from the AFL's point of view he is not exactly speaking positively about it.
Personally I think it should be scrapped and more rounds attached to the comp, so he was only saying what most are thinking. :thumbsu:

Agree on adding more rounds to the home and away. Disagree however on Craig falling into the catogory that memo speaks about.

If you think saying that he is not playing players purely because "the NAB cup is not important enough" is not going against what the AFL are saying, then no matter what I say or quote there is no chance I can win this debate now is there? ;)

Was that memo about coaches critisisng the NAB cup and issue's related or was it about telling coaches to treat it as a home and away.
Neil Craig does neither and if treating it as the home and away is what they want then we are guilty.

I thought it was about telling coaches to pretend as if they are treating it with more respect than it really deserves.

Like I said, good on Craig for being honest. Treat it with the respect it deserves but no more than that. :thumbsu:

I actually agree with you :D.. even after the game, Craigy said to put things in perspective "It is ONLY the NAB cap....." so he is just stating the obvious. It isn't worth points and other teams aren't going out as hard as they would in the premiership round (although I don't think Adelaide could be accused of that). While he wasn't openly knocking it, he was putting it in its place and I am pretty sure the AFL's memo was intended to stop these sorts of comments.
