Guess Collingwood must operate under the same "boys club" tenet that the AFC is accused of then???

Last time I looked former Pies player Gary Pert was their long standing CEO.....:)
Big difference is Pert had gained significant business experience. eg. CEO of Austereo.

Don't think helping out a charity is quite the same...

What about him?

Headed up player association before switching to Tigers.
My reference was to the AFC "boys club" shit that gets spouted endlessly on here, btw Gale was a "struggling" practicing solicitor before his time at the player's association...

Well Smart did not get the COO job on merit...

apparently he is extremely arrogant.
I've never met him, but this trait stands out like dogs balls...and that was before his gaffe re the state jumper. Just like good players don't necessarily make good coaches, dickheads don't necessarily redeem themselves ever again....and once an arrogant prick always an arrogant prick.o_O

We've got a lot of acute issues at the club, we're poorer than we've ever been, we have holes in our coaching panel and inconsistent performances onfield. Now isnt the time for someone to learn on the job, we should have brought in a highly qualified and experienced candidate, but that wouldve been a threat to chapman. Im saddened.

I met Benny in the late 90's and he had already completed a Masters Degree in Law studying part-time in addition to his successful career as a professional footballer. As soon as he retired he started working full time as a solicitor. I agree that he was not made a partner within 2 years of starting his new career but not even footballers are given that much of a leg up. Can you share with us the evidence for your comment Bicks "a struggling practising solicitor",

One more question Bicks, have you even been "employed" by the Adelaide Football Club? A simple yes or no will be enough.

No

Forget the state jumper or his personality you need to ask 3 questions.
What qualifications does Smart have?
does Smart have a successful political career?
What experience does Smart have running a successful business?

All I hear is crickets. If you can't find a more qualified candidate you just aren't looking hard enough (or at all).

Not even on a voluntary basis?

I appreciate that you probably know Nigel and are in a better position than I to judge his character,( No, I have never been on the AFC payroll or provided voluntary services to the club but I do know people who are or have been part of the AFC family).

You haven't answered the question regarding your attack on Benny Gale.

I think it was a global no

No

Attack????

Merely stating discussion that was bandied around at the time he took the position at the Player's Association re his future salary prospects, no more than that. i.e. salary of a successful lawyer vs Player's Association Rep.

I've never met or even spoken Nigel and the closest I've ever been to him was probably in the rooms after a Panther's game many moons ago.

What really shits me is this line that some of you go on with that if you agree with something the club does you must be on the payroll, and by the way nowhere have I said Nigel should be a shoe in for the job, my point is merely it is not unusual to ALL football club's to employ former players, not now, not in the past, not in the future I'd hazard a guess.

FYI I have resided outside of SA for close to 20 years but still class myself as a one eyed Crows supporter and will be until the day I draw my last breath.

Don't worry. This is the morons M.O. don't bite.

Can we stop using the term hate to describe any reservations that are held about a person what so ever?

I don't hate my old man but I'll be damned if I think he should be CEO.

I don't hate Smart.

Love him as a player.

Probably a knob of a bloke, but I don't associate with him, so I don't care.

But he is completely devoid of the experience and qualification to run an organization such as the AFC.

And if you listen to reports on his time at Variety, or the esteem he is held in within the marketing department of the Crows, I doubt he has the talent or intelligence either.

You won't find any crow supporter that didn't love the way that Smart played his football, he played with a swagger and steely confidence

However sometimes best fit for a role is more about timing and the timing is not right for Smart and it's more to do with his readiness.

Historically the club has promoted within however what the club needs now is a new freshness that only an external appointment can bring

That's because they are a bunch of inexperienced, out of there depth marketing graduates.

He doesn't respect them and they have not done a thing to earn it.

The crows marketing team have not set the world on fire over the past 36 months.

Sometimes the irony is too much...

You accuse others of being "morons" whilst highlighting ad-hominem

Glad you picked up on it. But if one consistently accuses anyone of being employed by the club etc etc it would indicate either a weak argument, subpar intelligence or being afraid of a different opinion. I was just taking a stab in the dark at which one.

There's a sure-fire way to have an underperforming team, and that's to be an elitist pole smoker. Thinking you're shit hot just doesn't motivate other people.

Edit: In Australia. Works in America.
