They all make promises they never keep
they are condescending pompous pricks who bellitle our existance to the role of voting for them once every 4 years. I cannot comprehend how ANYONE can vote for them after 30 years of LIES.
one nation is nothing more than an outlet of anger for an abviously frustrated and angry electorate who are fed up with this attitude. Most people dont vote for one nation for its policies, but simply because they know they are a thorn in the 2 party side. Those that vote for one nation based on "policy?" vote due to fear, paulines major grip over people is that she thrives on the fear of the i regret to say ignorant constituents.

This leaves greens, democrats, and independents

the democrats sold us out on the GST, and for all those people who refused to listen to logic and voted for the GST well
"we told you so"
a 10% tax on everything made everying cheaper, logic you see :)

greens and independents

im not enrolled to vote, but if i was id vote for the greens, people are misled about the majority of thier policies, they are seen as pot smoking hippies hugging trees. But econmocially thier policies are far better for the long term future than any of the other parties. Anti-globalisation, building of infrastructure for jobs around current existing frames, not paying multinationals to come and take our resources so we can get a few jobs, and environmentally, we would be 1000 times better off.

"No, we are opposed to a GST on books and educational materials."

This was never one of Howard's "non-core" promises, however, to clear things up, there is NO GST on university textbooks.
--------------------------------------------

they dont need a gst on books, they controll the price of them, they bring out new editions overy 2-3 years and charge a FORTUNE for them, my books cost 400 dollars for one semmester, some second hand, for an average sized unit at uni,
its a major fund rasier for uni's, the government forces them to get money from students because they wont give them enough.

Calculus for example has a new book every 2 yeras, yet its remained the same for the past 100 years, any book can be used for it, but you MUST have the one they sell or you will find the unit very hard. 100 dollars just for a calc book, they bring out new editions so 2nd hand ones cant circulate for too long, and the only place you can get these books is at uni. Why call it GST when you just put up the price and call it inflation or bookstores profit?
bookstores profit = uni profit = governemtn profit = no gst
pls dont let you alligence to the liberals cloud your judgment

Ive been a card carrying ALP members for more years than I care to remember-but the membership lapsed a couple of years ago. I didnt want to be one of those old bastards that just bagged the current leadership so I left and now I feel no such constraints.

To provide effective opposition sometimes you have to effectively oppose government policy. This doesnt mean just saying youre opposed to it and then voting for it in the house anyway. This seems to be Beazleys tactic and hes hoping to ride into government on the tail of Howards unpopularity. Well it would be poetic justice if the ALP wins govt and Beazley loses his seat.

Im with you, the Greens are the only hope, and my application for membership is in the mail.

Vote Labor, who wants the little man to be prime minister again??????????

Perhaps it'd be more productive to discuss to method of electing a government.

Should there be both the House of Representatives AND the Senate?

Do we really need 3 tiers of government, Federal, State & Local?

If we need a State government should there be both upper and lower house?

Do we elect by preferential voting, or proportional representation, or first past the post.

Should we have party politics, we vote for an individual member, but then that member is told how to vote by his/her party, is this correct?

Should government be dictated to by public initiated referendum?

Should there be compulsory voting in Australia?

Are these matters not more important than party political squabbling?

Screw them both - I'm voting Democrat.

In Pauline Hanson's 5 or so years in Parliament, she has basically shown what an uneducated, out of touch imbecile she really is, so One Nation is definitely not an option. God help us if One Nation gets the balance of power.

Hopefully Natasha Stott Despoja will get the Democrat leadership - she didn't sell out on the GST... she'd be a great leader
